 I have searched the forums for answers and it seems that battery discussions tend to be few and they seem to have posting dates around 3 years ago.

I am running twin Pitman 3700's and I am looking for a SLA hi cap ah which can be removed easily from the Tug so that launching/retrieval is easier for this old man's back. I see recommendations for wheel chair batts plus other types but I need to know brand and stock number as a recommendation. Some have posted information about a 30 lb battery but no information on size or capacity.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Jim,
Can't give specific model or manufacturer's names but can give you this suggestion. Batteries make very nice ballast. Sort of turns all that 'dead-weight' into something useful, right? So, the largest electrical capacity (Ah) and the lowest weight would seem like the best thing you can do (really telling you something new here, right?). I wish I could give specific make/models, but I can't, sorry 'bout that. Never built anything that size (yet)!

I used the Power Sonic 12 volt 35 amp-hour battery, it is almost 25 lbs, I attached the data sheet and I actually picked it up at Sears, they sold it as a wheel chair battery.

Thanks guys for the info, I want to use a heavy enough battery but one that will still fit in the compartment and then supplement that weight with lead shot and some scrounged wheel weights.

I do have a type 24 battery I use on a trolling motor which would work very nice - just way to heavy for me to set into such a small boat. I agree, it could use the weight and would probably be about right +/- a few lbs but it would have to be loaded in the boat before the boat was launched. I may have to do that, if I can't solve a smaller battery with hi AH being put in place after the boat is in the water.

It seems that I have read that there are folks from both schools of thought here and that it is a matter of personal taste and convenience.

I appreciate everyone's opinion and information.

Are you running the motors on 1 speed control set up for 12 volts or 2 speed controls?
1 speed control you could be powered by 2 - 3 - 4 batteries in parallel. Volts will be 12 but your amps will add up with the batteries
or 2 batteries per motor.

Each Pitman has its own FR30 Electronize ESC's and a Vantec ESC for the bow thruster. All components will run through a Harbor Models Distribution Panel.

Using a JR 10 channel for mixing control until I run out of things to put in it.
Thankx for your response.
