This is off the topic of boats, but I am building a boat. My Dremel 395 has broken. Seems like a rubber or plastic sleeve that connects the motor shaft to the output shaft shattered. Anybody have an idea on what I can use to replace it?

Greetings
I just checked Horizon and they don't show any parts except brushes.
I would check with Dremel.

About a year ago the same thing happened to mine  :censored: So with nothing to lose I put a piece of vinyl tubbing in place of the plastic sleeve and it works great. :) :D

I supose its relivant - I also sometimes have a problem with my dremel - sometimes after extended periods of use it sort of stops working for a bit. i wait some time and its good to go again. I wondered if it was because of overheating but for all I know it could be the brushes or something more expensive. Any ideas?

Luckily I did find the part I need. $1.99 + a few dollars S&H. Better than having to buy something new!

I had the same thing happen. Although the repair part is listed in the online parts on the Dremel web site, they no longer have them. BUT!!!!!
For the cost of repair $36, Dremel will send you a refurbished current model variable speed tool! I received mine in less than a week after sending in the broken tool less the collets, etc. It's Dremel's policy if they can no longer support a tool, they'll sell you a refurbished current model at the maximum cost of repair. The tool they sent me could not be differentiated from a new one except the refurbished product carries a one year warranty unlike a new tool's five year warranty. Mine works fine!

PS: My variable speed pot was shot, too.

Thanks swift16! That's good to know considering I would only need the tool and not a whole 'kit' with accessories like they sell in the store. I am first going to try and get that spline from toolsforless and see how that works. If not, I'll do what you did.

I'll bet anything it's overheating. It could run (theoratically) forever without load, but if you're loading it down pretty hard for a while, I could see it overheating easily...

I order the parts for Toolforless.com on 7/2. They were shipped from New Hampshire via USPS and they arrived on 7/5. Nice! I ordered 2 for 1.99, shipping 2.54 + tax, came to $6.98. Not bad! Beats having to buy a whole new or refurb. Works great, I'm back in business. Though I would let everyone know.
