Pic's will follow after the contest. Have the maps in hand as of today for all three courses(Combined the barge handling and free run on one). Will be busy as as soon as it is over, have to get ready for the PNW run Drive on Thursday. Have decided to bring some HP to the party as it is that kind of a place up there. Still figuring on moving the whole operation to Burnaby on Sat. if they do not beat me up too bad in Bellvue. See you at the Lake for the Contest.

Thought I ought to update this to include Shaun and the Visailia Bunch with personal invites. shaun had one of your folks up for the Fishing Regatta, seems to be a Paso Robles type, lost his e-mail address between the lake and the computer so will find it. said he had a Boating Buddy so it looks like your area is growing. El Dorado Hills personnel are welcome also. Two weeks and the fight for Top Skipper is on!!!!!!

Hee hee, looking forward to it! :)

Will have to put in some long hours in the shop to have my new tug done in time! (this should be fun!)

Aero I knew it was a mistake to tell you that a new tug needed to be seasoned at a major regatta. New Boat- Maiden run- Contest is not a real good combination, bring the Springer so at least one reliable craft is in the running.

Hee hee, I plan to bring my tug fleet, just in case! ;) also will try to run them all if there is time!

Hummm, we need to reawaken the "all west coast" event idea! :)

Well if you must know it is tough to schedule so everyone can get here. Will see the PNW groups at their regattas in August. Also was informed by the sponsor(furnishs the seed money for contest)that the Seaways Towing was sold and now the Name should be NOLO Maritime Cup. Since had put it out as the Seaway Cup on the info sheets will have to announce the change at the contest. Managed to get the new batteries installed in the Springer, will test tomorrow. Want it doing well as it is in line to go North in August.

This will be the last post before the contest. Been working on the prize stuff and the charts for the courses, never seem to remember how much paperwork is involved with this regatta. Have had a call from a FLORIDA modeler who is coming, no report on the PNW folks but they have a Big Do going on also. Charge the boats, check in with me at the contest with your screenname so can put a face to a name. See You at the LAKE!!!!!!

NOLA Maritime nee Seaways Cup Report:

A reletively small but competitve and friendly group of tugboats and drivers came to this year's event. Most were from the bay area with exception of Captain Bob from Southern California (thanks for making the trip up! :) ) and we had a visitor from Pensacola FL. who spent both Saturday and Sunday observing the event and taking notes. We had no "invasion from the north" this year which was missed- Perhaps gas prices, perhaps too many events scheduled too close together this year? I hear OPEC thinks $78/barrel is a fair price so maybe we will see things get better-

Saturday greeted us with sunny skies and warm (for S.F.) temperatures at the lake with just enough wind to keep things interesting- Saturday was "team day" and 2 events were run, "Freighter Adrift" where a team of two tugs recover the powerless oil tanker, Pacific Emanon, take it through a course and return it to the dock. Second event on Saturday was "Team Towing" with a tug tied to the bow and a tug tied to the stern of the same stricken freighter. In team tow, the freighter is lead through a more complicated course and docked. Both events are challenging as the freighter weighs hundreds of pounds and has a big profile for the wind.

Sunday was typical S.F.- Foggy and a little on the cold side (still warm for S.F.)- Day 2 is tug and barge day where we run two boats at a time- one through a timed Navigation course (judged by a 1:1 tugboat captain) without the barge and the second through another navigation course with barge. the skipper is free to tie the barge on however they wish but I think they were all tied on to push this time.

Everybody there had a good time and we look forward to next year! :)

My camera was running low on power so I didn't snap as many pictures as I wanted...(Charge tx, check!- Charge boat, check!- charge camera, D'oh! :censored:  :o ) I used another camera a bit and am hoping to see those pictures here too...

When you are as computer challegned as I am it takes a bit to get it together. Am downloading the pics I took Sat. as soon as I close this. Aero manged to win the Sunday Tug and Barge Event with his new tug. Will make a full disclosure on the next post. Good to see Bob E. at the event, we all got a bit of sun on Sat., and then Sun. was typical S.F. fog and gray. Was a good day anyway.

Cap'n Bob writes a bi-monthly newsletter that he hands out to us at the lake. The latest issue has a report on his trip up north. I scanned it into a PDF file for all ya'll.
