In addition to my previous post regarding suggestions for a vintage style low wing type model, the other project I have in mind is a Brooks Biplane. I remember seing one fly many years ago but I haven`t seen or heard of one since! I rather fancy building a specimen for electric power. I believe it was about 60" span, just about the size I usually build ( or bigger!) I would be most grateful if anyone could provide a plan and/or pics. Thank you, Bob Imp.

Hello Bob:
Here is a scan of a partial page from an ancient Aeromodeler plans catalog. I believe I got this in the 60s. The prices are in pounds/shillings/pence if that means anything. Unfortunately the pictures are tiny and don't blow up well.
Maybe someone in the UK can tell you if there is a source for the old Aeromodeler plans or tell you which in issue the Brooks Biplane appeared.

Plan still available - http://www.myhobbystore.com/SearchResults/mcs/txtSearch/brooks/brand/0/category/0/catname/--%20Category%20--/
Here's a scan of the article from the November 1952 Aeromodeller.

Interesting plan site for old Aeromodeller drawings - expensive, though.

expensive, though.
The best is always worth paying for - or so my wife keeps telling me!

Hey guys,
What's the name of the plane under the "Windy ain't it"? Don't care for the wheel pants, but the rest of the plane looks neat.

Is it an Eros? I was wondering that too, it is a good looking model.

It's not ONLY good looking-----EROS is beautiful. Have seen a couple of them in the proper 84in span---as they should be.
I think there was a 1/2? size one as a full size plan in Aeromodeller mag. maybe about 20 years ago.

I have plans for both the full size Eros and the Southerner Major, i can't decide which to build after the Black magic, the Southerner Major and the Eros are both beautiful aircraft.
I like the wheel pants, i will definitely have them on mine.
My friend has built a Half size Eros with a Thunder Tiger GP07 in it, we had to put some packing under the wing and some extra downthrust to stop it climbing drastically under power but it flies lovely now and looks so pretty in the air.

So who amongst us can spring a photo of an Eros?

Well I at least found some Mercury pics for Vintage 1. Club mate Mark has compiled this amazing file of photos against our plans list which is where these came from. No Eros though although I note we have the plan available.

I just did a quick google image search and found this.
http://www.rcrevue.cz/objednejte-si/planky&page=20&planek=eros%5B112%5D
Looks like it's a Czech enthusiasts site, he has re drawn the original FF Eros plan for RC.
Can anybody translate?
Also just noticed he has re sized it to 1250mm span, nice size for electric conversion.

Neil,
Neat site: Did you check out plan #62 the President? Got to love that flying stab and the linkage setup. Is that a British design?

Yes. Yet another design by Albert Hatfull .. an attractive F/F cabin sportster published Aeromodeller - October 1950

Like that Eros man, want one of them too.
And here I thought the Spit was the only aesthetically pleasing airplane to come out of the UK.............. ;).........lol........ Chad.

They are all nice, but that EROS is superb. There's even the man's plan there to build it from.

Ray,
I like the President; do you have a build article on that one you could send me? Not much to it is there!

Hi, this is interesting for guys interested in EROS.
This little one looks nice but the rudder is too small. I see that is fixed in the plan above. Lovely lines. I agree with Chad, yet another one for the some day build list.

I built a President as my first FF power model. Cracking rate of climb with a Mills 75, just a bit nose heavy, so the next one will have a shorter snout (i think the destructions mention the need to do this if using a heavy motor). It would be perfect with a PAW 55 methinks. The only mod I did was to put the tailplane spar at the top of the ribs rather than on the underside 'cos the first attempt went super banana on application of dope...
Fab memories awoken, I will make another one!

I've flown a friends Mini Eros about 4 times now and I wouldn't say the rudder is super powerful but it's ok for guided flight.
After the first flight we decided it did need some alterations, he has made adjustments to the wing incidence and the downthrust, a bigger rudder didn't even come up for discussion though, it wouldn't hurt to enlarge it but it's not necessary, it's a lovely little flier now.
I have a new unused Mini Eros plan, I could scan it to bmp if someone else can turn it into a pdf or even better a tiled pdf
If anybody fancies a go at it let me know.

I am guessing this is the same Coasby that designed the Taurus and the Icarus controline planes. He sure was a prolific designer of all types. My Taurus is a great flying plane with the Anderson Spitfire ign. engine. Coasby probably designed the largest controline planes around at that time.

I dug my President out of the roof where it has been lurking for the last two decades. No wing or tail, but they'll be simple enough to replicate. The Mills fired up once the carb was degummed, the short length of fuel tube still gives 10-12 seconds of run. I am half tempted to put single channel into it, the radio could lurk where the timer should have gone, and rudder/DT would keep me out of the normal trouble...
