DOn,
I just bought an EDOmodel f-4 from Turbofanelectrics. I read on another forum that the cool wind 4000 kv on 3s does well in the EDO fan unit(350 watts).
Can you tell me exactly what I need and any things to look out for using this fan? DO you have a combo deal with a pentium esc for this?
ALso, can you tell me if the stand off whips around or needs any additional support?
TIA
Terry

In the EDO fan:
Wicked 4000:
3s 280 watts
4S 550 watts
Wicked 4800:
3S 380 watts
You will need to order it with the "Alfa plug" and I now have a small spacer that you put into the rotor before installing (the EDO stock rotor plug is longer than the alfa plug). Then what you do is simply press the EDO rotor onto the plug, it is a tight press fit and works quite well.
So for 3S you need the Wicked 4800KV.

Also you need to cut off the four splines in the EDO housing so the standoff mount fits in. I took some photos when I did it, I just need to find the memory card

OK then the 4800. If you can post pics, that would be great!
I hope to call you later today.
I'm not crazy about the press-fit, but I want to keep it simple and light.
Do you have volts/amps for the 380 watts?
Is there any trouble balancing the fan?

Here is the Eagletree plot. About 37 amps

Don,
You don't have a phone number listed on your site, Can you pm it to me? It would be easier to talk about it.

Here are some installation photos into the EDO fan. The press fit is very strong with this rotor onto the Alfa plug. I have run it like this over 600 watts and no issues.

Don,
Why is there a warning to not run the motor unloaded? is it because it will throw the magnets?
Just curious. Happy 4th.

Because some people would hook up a 4S lipo then run the motors unloaded and the RPM was so high it would outrun the ESC RPM limit which make the motor stutter which can damage the ESC and or motor windings for the amps surge. For example, the 5400 KV motor unloaded on 4S would be over 80,000 rpm and no ESC I know of can handle a 6 pole motor at 80,000 rpm.
It is not that you can not run them no load, I do it with a 10 volt supply to check KV. You just need to be careful of outrunning your ESC if you do.

I was out of town for the weekeknd. Just got back.
-It will take me a while since I will be modifying it for belly landing.
I also try to be a perfectionist, but rarely succeed ;) :o
I will start it this week, I promise.

Back from the death. Don ,will the Wicket 4800 and pentium 40A ESC be a good combination for the EDO F 15 with stock fan and 3s 2200 battery?
Thanks

You want the motor with "standoff adapter and EDO plug"
