hi!

I am interested in a helicopter that has a range (line of sight) of about
1000 feet, and is capable of lifting approximately 10 oz (275 grams) of
weight/cargo.

Battery or Petrol, it doesn't matter - as long as it can lift it. Slightly
higher weight carrying capacity wouldn't hurt - maybe 2 or 3 more oz. - but
a minimum of 10 oz.

Can someone make some suggestions and include approximate pricing as well.

I was considering the DraganFly - the big one, but that's US$5,000!!

Is there anything less expensive? I do NOT expect to pay only a few
hundred... I realise it will cost at least US$1,000 or more....

I do NOT know much about R.C. helicopters, but have been lurking in this
list for a bit and I sincerely hope that someone can give me some suggested
models and prices.

Thanks so very much!

1000 feet may well be line of sight and indeed you could take a heli up
higher than that and still see it. However I doubt that you could 'fly' it
at that height. Straight up and then down, yes, but anything more fancy
would be pushing it. This is cos you need to be able to see the bugger
twitching so you can counteract those movements.

This is of course pre-supposing that you don't intend to have a large pair
of field glasses strapped on yer head:o))

1000 feet might be the extreme top end...
and yes, up and down would be fine.

I have a 3.3 megapixel camera with a timer device.
I want to set it to take a pic every 10 seconds (have a 512 meg memory
stick,
good for 250 pictures at the highest resolution).

Most of the work will happen at very low altitudes - 100 feet, maybe 200
feet.

Any suggestions?? thanks!

In that case, ANY of the current crop of "30 sized" machines would work.
Raptor 30/50, Concept VR 46, Sceadu 30/50 you name 'em. Nothing fancy but
all capable of doing what you've asked for.

You should be able to get everything (radio included) for that single grand.

thanks for the reply!

The Raptor v.2 looks very sharp!

I'm looking for some specific pricing now...

Thanks again!

I suspect you are in the UK, thus www.cyberheli.com offers cheap mail-order
from Hong-Kong. Highly recommended, good service and prices. In the US,
www.heliproz.com and www.ronlund.com offer some good deals. Also try
www.helihut.com

-hope this helps!

Also, realise you will have to invest much effort in learning to fly (and
also the "in's and out's" of a helicopter and R/C) -- I recommend a
simulator. It will pay for itself over and over and over when you are
learning! Realflight G2 is the best, but most expensive.

Seems to me that most any 46 or 60 size heli can easily lift a can of Coke.
That's more than you asked for.
I've already had a 2 lb. steel plate attached to the skids of by GPH. No
problemo! I am running it stock, except for the O.S. .50 engine.
