looks like the falcon 3d with a new name to stop people from associating the bird with defective lipos/chargers

There have been a lot of changes since the days of the falcon. This one is really a sweatheart. Check out the video on our webpage when you get a chance. The Typhoon has ball links, belt drive, better gyro, and a better radio.

thats pretty cool. i had always wanted to check out the falcon 3d but there is no part support in my area. this one looks pretty nice too. i kinda liked the torque tube vs belt. im sure belt is a lot nicer after a crash tho.

Looks just like a Falcon 3D v2, but with slightly different main-frame arrangement and a belt driven tail. The head, motor, ESC, gyro, charger, and radio all sound like and look like they came straight from the Falcon 3D v2. I'm not a fan of belt driven tails... but to each their own.
For me the Falcon 3D has been a great bird. My Falcon of almost 2 years now has been dressed up with night-flight LED blades and glowire and I still love the thing!
Regards.

Hello Typhooners-
I notice there has been no activity on this thread since August of 2008. Long detailed threads are usually the sign of a sucessful design. Threads that go dead usually mean the pilot has moved on to something else!
I'm a co-owner of a Typhoon that has not yet been flown. We have been practicing on Real Flight simulators G2 and G3.5. Flying the heli is much trickier than flying fixed wing RC planes.
Question: It is not clear from the manual if the Typhoon has multiple flight modes for the throttle or if you only have one control mode with the left stick. Can anyone provide additional information? Many of the Real Flight helis have 3 settings for the throttle. One that is a low level almost analog mode and two with fixed rpm levels.
Thanks,
Rich

I've got one of these. Is it the ESC that is programmed for the servo throw? I'm trying to lock in a bigger Pitch and Throttle Curves but I can only lock in 5 Degrees of play. How do you program a bigger servo throw or end points on this? Or is there something wrong with my typhoon?
thank you

This bird only has two modes, normal mode and idle 1 mode(3d)

The adjustment knobs on top of the radio are your only pitch adjustments. If you want more control over the throttle and pitch curves, you can use a computer radio/receiver system that has built in helicopter software. The DX7 from Spektrum is a great fit. http://www.hobby-lobby.com/dx7_dsm2_7_ch._microlite_heli_radio_3_ds285_digita l_servos_3767_prd1.htm?pSearchQueryId=151656

in other words your not to sure how that transmitter work, and how to reset the adjustments and end points on it. That's ok, I already just purchased another RX so that i can use my wk2801 TX on this bird. It's a shame though no one really knows how this Typhoon and Falcon SE fully operates.

Didn't say that at all. The two knobs adjust pitch only. The left one adjusts the pitch around half stick and is used really to adjust the head speed for hovering. The right knob is used to adjust the max pitch range. If you need more pitch you move the knob clockwise. Here's a video about how to setup the transmitter if you need it http://formerly.hobby-lobby.com/typhoon-setup.htm

So really Jason what's the purpose of the lock and adjust switch? Because I can't seem to lock at low throttle 0 Degree pitch, at high Throttle +12 Degree Pitch. It on locks at mid stick which is +5 and high Throttle +10. I am so confused, with this lock switch thing

Yup my tail hub survived a severe crash. But other than that this thing is awesome. Plus we got Jason here for support on any questions we may have with this heli. Hobby-lobby.com is the best!!

The lock switch is there to keep you from making adjustments accidentally. With the switch in the lock position, you can move the knobs around all you want and it will not make any changes to the heli. With the switch in the adjust position the knobs will change the pitch settings on the heli. You only put it in the adjust mode to get it setup initially until your happy with it and then put it in the lock position so it doesn't change accidentally.

Hi Jason,
Thank you for your help, I appreciate this so much, you have no idea. I'm very greatful. I've recommended one of your customers to go to this thread and talk to you, I gather it's best if he gets the right help straight from the man himself. His name is skotman, he'll be in soon.
Just a question Jason, with the frame,
http://www.hobby-lobby.com/typhoon_main_frame_set_5113_prd1.htm
They come with a set of screws right? Also would I need to buy/use glue or loctite for the installation of the frame?
Thanks once again Jason

Subscribed...The guys at HL were a BIG help in determining the main gear. I don't remember who I spoke to on the phone but we kept getting disconnected and he'd either call me right back or I'd call back and he'd pick up right away.
Jason,
Are the blades for the Typhoon in yet? I've got a set on back order still.

It comes with the screws. I think the frame is all plastic parts so there will be no need to loctite for that. It's a good idea to have some though for any of the screws that go into metal.
Thanks,
Jason

Jason, I have been learning to fly on a Typhoon , however it has started to malfunction, on throttle up, the motor spins up, gives a sound and begins to stutter. Is this an ESC issue or motor?
I am not seeing a similar motor on your site, thats the one wrapped in the gold heat sink. It was there a couple weeks ago for $20.

That sounds like there could be a connection problem between the motor and ESC. It needs a solid connection with all 3 leads to work properly. It could be an internal short in the motor as well, or a bad esc. It's hard to tell without testing the components. The new Typhoons are coming with a more efficient outrunner motor. You can replace the one you have with this one http://www.hobby-lobby.com/typhoon_brushless_motor_5153_prd1.htm

Jason Cole
