don't know if you are interested, but don't pay more than $55 shipped for the seaport workboat on ebay.

the stock electronics don't work, the motor is a crappy 9.6 volt. I replaced it with a http://www.vac-u-boat.com/Motor545.htm had to make my own motor mount and drill a hole in the plastic ""pinion" also prop shaft leaked so I had to regrease it http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=6588.msg97416#msg97416 then sealed the deck with silicone. Now it sails great. The propeller on this boat doesn't do reverse, but it doesn't matter. The Esc iis a cheap 15A aquacraft unit, with the new motor the boat runs for five hours on one 2A battery!

the vacu tug looks like a lot of work and also requires painting..

I have a problem with paying almost $50 just for shipping especially when it is across town and under 25 miles that is almost $2 a mile, it should be shipped by a CAB for that price.
as for the building I am looking forward to it

it's always sold on ebay...lowest price is $55 shipped..here's one.. http://cgi.ebay.com/RC-Sea-Port-Working-Tug-Boat-RTR-R-C-Ship-with-Light_W0QQitemZ310058339028QQcmdZViewItem?hash=ite m310058339028&
remember it doesn't actually work out of the box..
you need
1) your 2 channel radio and receiver and servo that you have to figure out how to mount inside
2) your esc, any cheap esc will work..and your 7.2 volt battery pack
3) the vac-u-tug motor about $21 shipped (they ship fast!)
4) make your own motor mount and drill a hole in the plasticn "pinion"
5) regrease the shaft if it leaks (i can send you the grease for free, i have lot left over) coastal maring premium grease
6) seal the deck with silicone (i could send you some as well)
7) need to do some soldering. I made switch and charge plug outside
8) once you are done with that, you have a nice boat..it runs for 5 hours on one 2A battery pack.. once it's sealed it doesn't take on water..the hull is abs plastic which doesn't break when you hit stuff..and it looks great in the water..mine was randomly selected for rotation on RCUniverse Home Page! http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa36/Stevelum_2007/dickie.jpg
considering a fair amount of improvisation you have to do to mount the servo and motor, you might as well go with the vac u tug.. but is think the seaport workboat is bigger looks cooler than the vacutug.. anyway, if you go with vacutug, I'd be interested to see what you come up with..who knows i might get one myself some day..

yep, you can tell by all the banged up walls in the house
I am bailing out of flight because it is hard to keep facing the plane and I preferred slope soaring, I tried big birds with gas but that was too hard finding a flying site so I am trying boats

Alright, well launching by yourself or with a helper? If by yourself, you should make a PVC pipe launcher. I made one when my leg was in a cast and I couldn't kneel or bend down. It turned out to be such a nice device I use it all the time ever since.
Only thing, you have to get close to the edge of the pond/lake, so you in particular would have to be real sure about your chairs footing.

thanks for the idea, I have a 21 yr old who will be with me in the beginning and I will undoubtedly be going to a club pond. The one in Riverside CA. looks like a strong bank, as long as I don't dig in I will be ok  I saw a rail launch, they used a O scale track and rolled the boat down into the water. I would need to play with it, making it possible to retrieve as well as launch.
A nice weighted cradle on wheels with a rope to pull it back, and I can practice DOCKING into the cradle. now how do I carry a 10 long track  :D
