Raptor 60 Finals and Gyro Setup

Can anybody help with the following.

Kit is Rapter 60 built from kit with JR 378X Tx and 700 Tr plus JR550 gyro
and Futaba S9450 tail servo.

Confused about gyro modes, when does one use Rate Mode and when Tail Lock,
have enquired and read up on it and I get differing answers to the same
question.

Should I set rate Mode for Normal setting and then Tail Lock for Stunt 1 and
2 plus Hold.

What should be the settings for Gain, Expo and DR.

Using Aux2 for gain and gear channel for switching mode.

Confused also about Normal and Auto settings and can these be incorporated
into Stunt 1 and 2 with differing gain, expo and dr.

I am new to the hobby with first hover planned for next week, have been
using Rays Manual for build and set up advice.
Should I consider a Flight Sim if so what one and what lead will work with
PC - without game card at present.

Any help appreciated.

I am not using the same radio/gyro as yours (I use Futaba FF9, JR 3810 and
Futaba GY-401, GY-601), so I will just try my best to help

On Futaba Gyro, there are two modes - Normal and AVCS (Heading hold). I
guess JR Gyro's Rate Mode is Normal and Tail Lock is AVCS of Futaba's Gyro.
If so, with Normal mode, the tail isn't held still and it still drifts while
AVCS mode the tail locks like a solid rock. AVCS (Tail lock) is needed for
all those aerobatic/3D stuff such like backward flight. With Normal mode,
heli will quit flying backwards in the middle of the backward flight while
AVCS will hold the tail during backward flight even you fly backwards very
fast. The Normal mode is used to tune the length of the tail control rod and
after I don't use Normal and set up all flight mode with AVCS.

Sim is a must!
