Hi!

Im new here and hope to found a lot of good stuff in this forum.
I hope you understand my bad English. :)

I have got a 90 cm long boat made out of wood.

my boat (http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg78/variosboy/boat/DSC00090.jpg)

As it is now, the boat is all out och electronics.
At this point im in to electric motor and im not looking for high speed stuf.

Any tips for me where/how to start this project?

My budget is somwhere in the area of 300$, is it possible you think!?

Welcome To RCgroups :)

Probably want to start with a good inspection and evaluation of the drive line and rudder. Make sure the boat is water tight below the waterline.

You will need a two channel radio.(with two servos or one servo one ESC)
One Electronic Speed Control (ESC)
One Motor possibly a 500 series and motor mount..(some RF capacitors)
One universal joint to connect the motor and drive line.
Brass or steel connection rod from the servo to rudder.(Misc parts..)

one pond...

Thanks for your fast answers!

I will take a look around and trye to put together some things to use, and then i will let you take a look at it so it will work out!

What RPM:s are we talking about in this kind of boat!? someone said about 3000RPM on the outgoing axel for this kind of boat, is it correct?

A basic 545 run at its rated voltage will give realistic performance. Do not let the shopkeeper sell you a racing motor - in this type of hull all that will happen is that the battery will flatten faster.
Try not to worry too much about RPM numbers - the combination of the battery, motor and prop in water will settle at its own RPM for the speed you set. For scale purposes, take the RPM of the real thing and multiply that by the square root of the scale. Then add a bit to allow for the inefficiences introduced by the small size of the model components.

Hi Morgan,

How's your German?

Check out these motors:
http://www.hobby-lobby-modellbau.com/onlineshop/index.php/cat/c391_B-hler-Motore.html

Select the motor by boat weight and battery you plan to use.

As you can see the Bühler motors are cheap and have a very low ampdraw, good for very long runtimes (even flat out).

Thanks for all answers again!

I have been looking around now, and I have got this far: (i think) :)

Futaba attack II .
Futaba S3003 servo for rudder.
Graupner speed profi 40R
Bühler 498 motor , 12 Volt

plus some mountingstuf.

Do you think this will work out? should i change something!?

Check these ESC against the Profi 40R (which is a car ESC with the utter useless brake function for boats):

Both designed with your motorchoice in mind, specially the low rpm end will be much more sensitive.

This time only German, sorry...
