it matches up with the timer/counter hardware on the microcontroller much better. You only need one interrupt and one input.

True, streamlines it very much. Problem is you have to hack a receiver. Takes some time to trace out where exactly to tap into that signal and if you are wanting to be able to control the decade counter in the receiver to drive the servos from either the radio or the microprocessor then you have to cut a trace or two on the board and run a few more wires... If you do that don't forget you might have to run signal and a reset pin for the decade counter.
