When you scratch build like I do, the most unlikely objects can find their way into my projects. Consider this lowly ink jet cartridge cover. I almost tossed it out, but then my head voices said: "No! Wait, it's plastic!" I also noted that it's a 90 degree object. It just happens to fit a Mabuchi 380/400 quite nicely. With the right gears and shafts, we have the makings of a homemade gear drive unit.

Among other things my wife and I dabble with doll houses. I am an incurable pack rat. We have a closet divided into "things" and "stuff." It's amazing how often we remember something that has been there for years that is perfect for today's project. We moved here 8 years ago and I got a beautiful old wooden 40'x70' barn with no real use. Bad idea. I'll never fill it but I'm sure trying. ;)

420, you sound like you are attempting to emulate that last scene in Raiders of the Lost Arc :-)

Here's more on the makeshift gear drive. I made the propulsion shaft unit today.
