U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Ridley

Hi People,

Where would I begin to find some details, drawings etc that would enable me to scratch build U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Ridley?

I was seaching on the USCG "safe" boats when I spotted the Ridley, bigger and better....

Help, comments, abuse all weclome.....

Ex-Coastie here. I'm not familiar with the Ridley, but 2 minutes of digging tells me she was a WPB. Was she an 87 footer that looked like this?

Floating Drydock also lists some WPB plans in their
G and GQ series. :)

The RIDLEY (http://www.uscg.mil/datasheet/87wpb.asp) is one of the new Marine Protector class of WPB's - built to replace the older POINT class 82' WPB. To obtain plans of a Coast Guard cutter that is still in commission, send a written FOIA request to:

Coast Guard Models has plans and fiberglas hulls available fro the 87' WPB, Loayalhanna Dockyard (http://www.loyalhannadockyard.com/CGM887COASTALPATROL.htm) has them for sale.

Safeboats (http://www.safeboats.com/default/home.html) is a trademarked/copywrited name of a specific boat; and is becoming a generic name for the class. Think of Crescent wrench, Skilsaw, or Kleenex. Safeboat actually makes the RB-S (http://www.safeboats.com/default/boats.html?boat=rbs) (Response Boat, Small) for the USCG The RB-M (http://uscg.mil/acquisition/programs/pdf/rb-mfactsheet.pdf) is a larger boat to replace the 41' UTB.

HQ will still provide plans for in-service boats? I did that many-many years ago but thought since 9-11 they probably stopped doing that.

Thank you Coastguard Bob, I was almost certain that I would get some good input from you.
They are handsome craft; it is a pity that circumstances dictate their requirement.
I shall continue to admire and hopefully build a model of same.

I pulled the plans link off the USCG site today just for this thread. The plans for in-service boats were paid for (an owned) by the US taxpayers. I haven't tried to get plans from the USCG for several years, as I already have a pretty good plans library. You may not be able to get the plans for the National Security Cutters yet, as they are still being built; USCGC BERTHOLF is almost ready for commissioning.
