Hi all
I just thought I'd post a pic of my newest scale glider.
Its a Schleicher Ka1 at quater scale. 2.5m span.
It's unflown as yet, just waiting for some half decent weather.

Mark,
Very nice! Is it from a kit or scratch built?

Thanks,
It's a kit consisting of an epoxy glass fus and pre-built wings and tail. All I had to do was cover, paint and install the radio gear.
I got it from West London Models, It came from Germany but I believe that it is no longer in production.

Who makes it ?

The only other KA1 kit I know about is the one from CNC-Modelbautechnik in Germany, available her in the US through Shredair (http://www.shredair.com) and EMM (http://www.scalesoaring.net/EMM/rand.htm) , it's 1:2.5 scale, and pricey !

P.S. Sorry, I just read your post again, and saw the answer to my question

Looks very nice indeed. I built from plans a 1/4 scale K3 and it flies very nicely indeed. happy flying and happy landings.

It came from Franken Modelbau in Germany, they also did a nice ASK13. It was when I tried to get one that I found out that production had ceased, I think through lack of demand.

Mark,

What did you cover your Ka1 with? I am starting a scratch 1:6 DFS Reiher and want a translucent fabric look through the wings similar to what you have.

Doug, that looks like silk or Koverall from SIG and nitrate dope.

I have just started covering my Flair Ka8 with Koverall, this is what it looks like :

It's covered in 'Natural Solartex'. I'm not sure if it's available in the States or if there is an equivalent. It's a fabric iron-on heat shrinkable covering. After covering the wings and tails I gave them a couple of light coats of clear cellulose lacquer so that the blue could be masked and painted without creeping.

Mark and Michael,

Thanks for the great info and link. It's been a while since I've played with Dope. The last time had to be 20 years ago with tissue and dope.

Michael,

Great looking KA8! This Reiher project is getting out of control already...

Thanks again,

Doug
