So today I was out at our field and caught some really nice lift that was over me, I wanted to see how high I could go till I felt uncomfortable, which was 2000ft. What is your highest with a R/C TD glider?

Wow Brendan, thats respectably high!

I don't know what my past ceilings were when I flew a Sag 900 competitively years ago, we didnt have logging devices back then.
The thermaller I am building now sure is getting a zlog though, so we will see. :D

um, so high I lost sight of it.

It went into cloud base, so I'd assume that was above 2000 ft.

Flew A 100" rudder elevator to over 2000 it was just a pin prick thought I'd lost it but a spin and some inverted got it back.

Altitude was verified by a hanglider who was several hundred feet below me :D and came to find me when he landed as he had never seen a model go so high :D

Did a simillar thing with the same plane on top of dartmoor and 2 jets came over my head at a very low altitude, completley lost site of model but put it into spin and eventually caught site of it again 2 of my most memorable flight's

I could have gone higher, but it just wasn't comfortable. It was just cool to see the plane that high. It makes me wonder how high I can get the astro jeff.

A guy in our club flies a Wing Dragon as high as, I recall, 2100 feet. He's got very good eyes. I can see it when it's that high, but only if I know where to look, and it takes a long time to find it.

787 meter (2500 ft) with my BubbleDancer some weeks ago. The sky was clear so there wasn't any trouble with visibility.

Loren Blinde of Lincoln, NE put his 2nd Genie LT/S to near 3,000 feet. Go to page 16 of the Gallery file at http://genie.rchomepage.com/.

I'm not sure. A couple of weeks ago I had it very high though. I was starting to have trouble seeing it. A couple of times I took my eyes of it for a couple seconds and I had trouble finding it again. Thats not a good feeling!

Unfortunately I lost the data on my RAM2 alitimeter as I was uploading it into the compuer so I don't know how high I was. I did manage a personal best thermal flight of 26:00 though. I was surprised I did so well as the winds were a steady 20mph with gusts to 30mph. The highest that I have on record is about 1856'.

I have a contest tomorrow morning. Hopefully I can catch another one like I did last time out.

I've had an Astro Jeff over 4000 ft with a Picolario reporting the altitude. I've had SBXCs higher, but without a reporting or recording altimeter on board. The highest I remember hearing for my Supra has been 2700 ft. Ava at 2500 is no problem.

Last weekend I put my HKM Nimbus 4 (6.6 Meter) about 4100 under high gray overcast. Earlier in the day under a clear blue sky, 2400 was about it.

I generally lose my Icon stabs around 3,000 ft, I've had an SBXC over 5,000 ft and was a spotter (with wide angle binocs) for Jack Hiner when he set the R/C Glider altitude record over 6,000 ft.

There are stories (confirmed) of Troy Lawicki over 4,000 ft with a 2M Duck, but the wing has a chord like an ironing board:rolleyes:

YMMV, color, contrast, haze and your eyes are all factors.

I was flying with Troy at Traverse City, both of us flying 2M Ducks, don't remember what year (possibly 1987). Both specked, stabs not visible, planes just barely visible. A passing full scale pilot confirmed our altitude at just over 3000' agl. That was 20 years ago when I had better eyes. I hadn't heard of a Duck at 4000', but it wouldn't surprise me, Troy has great distance vision.

My 100K XC flight in 2006 was altitude logged and showed a max altitude at 3950' agl with many climbs to over 3000' agl.

You'll be happy to know that I had the Windsong up to 1700 today. I could have gone much higher, but I was playing the catch and release game. She's a sweety in good air.

Great to hear. There's a little bit o'bling on the way for yours. Made some for myself and for another gentleman.
