If a esc gets wet with the power on, but not used, will it damage it? I had the work boat tide to the barge and lifted the stern a little to much to clear some weeds the Boy got into and dunked the bow. The water ran in right on top of the esc, I turned every thing of and let it dry out for a week, it"s making noise but not working .

I could be damaged Jay- can you bring it along to Port Huron this weekend and we can try to figure out whats 'cooking' so to speak? lol
I assume the radio still controls the rudder ok but the motor doesn't run- is that right?

Hope to see you Saturday!

maybe, maybe not... sometimes drying out is all that's needed. the part about "not working" does not sound good though... :(

When my older ESC used to get sunk with my ship, we turned everthing off immediatley, and then disassembled it and any servos and the reciever.
Then poured rubbing alcohol through them, and set them aside to dry.
On a warm sunny day, ships were often back on the water within the hour.

A small write up from a while back... :)

depends on the ESC. if its an Mtroniks, you may be ok, if its an electronize or one with open ports in the casing, then a good drying out may be needed

Jay, is it one that you can open the case on? Thats a good thought that it could be wet inside and may work again if it can be dried out.

The Hand driers in washrooms work great at drying electronics. If you can't dry the electronic out immediately its best to disconnect the power and bag them in water, until you can dry them.

With fresh water, you can get away with a lot, salty/brackish water, you need luck. The alcohol treatment helps get rid of deeply hidden water, if you use a heater to dry it, make sure it has had plenty of time to cool down before trying it. Electronic components are usually rated for an ambient temperature of 25C - being pre-heated above this causes all bets to be off.

Thanks for all the replies, I'll bring it to Port Huron this weekend. It sat out of the boat all week before I tried it out, thought it should be dried out by now. I finally started working on two big display cabinets again, they've been sitting for two years have done. Works is getting busy, some long days, hard to get out of the lazy man chair after dinner. Here are some pics a load two weeks ago, explains the screen name.

I've watched this vid heaps of times

Going thru the gears in a CAT V8 powered 80 ton road train

turn up the sound

This user has a few other vids on his truck as well

I make that out to just under 195 000 lbs

your load is visually much more impressive though

Nick, cool video, neat truck. I'd hate to look at chicken wire all day. The Pete I am driving has a 600 Cummings and a 18 speed, I am grossing about 230,000 with that Cat, the truck and trailer are just under 70,000 empty. If the roads flat it would pull it at 70 mph, but the tires do not like that much weight and speed together. Jay

Beats looking at a smashed windscreen I suppose. fairly common to see on cabovers and combivans :D over here

Is your engine a 11 litre , only reason I ask is thats what I help put into full size boats QSM 11 at up to 715 hp. I look after installing electrics to the engines.

Leaving it for a week is not such a good idea. If you have water and you don't blow it out then you will end up with rust/corrosion. Thats about all i know from experience :)

Wow! thats really an over sized load!!

Nick, I can't tell you what size it is, not sure. It does have all that new emissions stuff that gets Dam hot! Russionred, I tried that esc tonight and it seems to word fine. The boss said something this week about a load from NJ to Seattle. Have to change the name to Long hauler!

Doesn't get to be much more of a long haul than that in the lower 48! Sounds like fun, especially with the boss buying the fuel! :)
