Does anyone know if the Walkera 5G6 / 4#3 transmitter is compatible with Phoenix Simulator and if so what leads are required?

From a quick google it seems that the transmitter is a 4 channel PPM 2.4Ghz. However, Walkera are known to follow their own when it comes to standards, such that the PPm signals that may be found on its trainer port don't follow the traditional format and thus you may find that it won't work with any of the major sims. Some Walkera TX's also have built in CCPM mixing which can't be disabled, however as the 5G6 appears to be a co-axil fixed pitch heli this shouldn't be a problem.

Malc, thanks for that. I think I might have to bite the bullet and look to the future in purchasing a DX6i along with the Phoenix sim.

Cheers

Check the other threads... there seems to be issues with the DX6i where the DX6 works fine with most sims !

DX6i works fine too, it just needs a different wiring of the trainer connector. Different from all other JR and Spektrum transmitters, that is.

But then wouldn't that void the warranty on a new tx ?

I have a 4#3, the version with a 72 MHz transmitter, and it does not work with Phoenix. I have the right adapter for the trainer jack in the back, at least it fits, but Phoenix just doesn't see any signal from it. I haven't tried it with any other sims.

Guys, many thanks for your comments. I could in the short term go for this package http://www.buzzflyer.co.uk/RC-Flight-Simulators/PhoenixRC-Plus-Transmitter/p-116-593/ until I've saved enough for a Blade 400 which is packaged with a DX6i. What do you think?

Considering Phoenix retails for around £85, that looks a worth while package, and will give you a means of practicing the basics before you het your heli.

Malc, thanks for your support on that. I hear so much about Phoenix and being a must have to progress. BuzzFly at the moment have been 101% in all I have done since starting the hobby and will probably purchase very soon. BTW, I'm happy to be honest, and in time I will get there, gee I 'm struggling with my 4#3. Hopefully the Phoenix Sim will help me alround. Thanks again Malc.

Not surprising, micro helicopters such as the Piccolo / Hummingbird are a handfull, even for an experienced pilot, those micro- micro copters like the 4#3 must be a real nightmare to fly. IMO not something for the novice to start with.

I would of suggested the Blade CX2 or any of the contra rotating blade helis to start with as they are a lot more stable, take away the issues of a driven tail (which is the main area novice pilots have problems with) and are a lot less prone to damage (because you'll crash less often :) )

Generally the bigger the heli the more stable it becomes especially in the hover. These small micro's seem very twitchy from the video's I've seen on the net, which is a problem for novice piolts. But having said that, I'm sure with determination (and a few spares :) ) you'll crack it !

Malc, I've been flying the new metal upgraded BuzzFly CX 2.4 Ghz (aka Walkera 5G6) since March, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCrqr2WD85U completely sussed this little beauty since the clip and needed a further heli challenge. Hence the BuzzFly (aka Walkera 4#3) and what a challenge, but after perseverance and great support from BuzzFly I last night achieved about a 2min hover! Well it felt like that anyway! Hard work but worth every minuet. Still love the 5G6 as an easy indoor “do anything you want heli” and can't wait for the next version! People have preferences and love the Blade CX and I know its horses for course and individual choice but I was advised the 5G6 route and have no complaints. Recommend 5G6 to start the hobby? Every time.

Yeh, checked your web site out and very impressive. Where do you get the time? Oh and when you sell them a 5G6 is a must!!!
Cheers RS

Thanks for the comments on my site, I might just take a look at the 5G6 as you suggest

For info I've been advised that Phoenix simulator does not support Walkera trannies.

Looks like this is the easiest solution:

i do not think that the walkera's use PPM

i have a wk2401 2.4Ghz transmitter and as far as i can tell it does not use ppm

smartpropoplus does not recognise anithing and the ppm thermometer program does not show any channel.

sure i got a signal but it looks weird.

i have walkera 2.4ghz working with fms and using smartproplus and when installing it it does show up as ppm

Shaul Eizikovich analysed my signal and it is not ppm he said and he is the expert on ppm

this means they either make poth types or there is a dipswitch inside to select what signal goes to the trainer port.

i am giving up on this

bought the esky 4 channel trainer kit for $22

basically it gives me 4 usb channels so it should work with al the flightsimulators out there

Actually the ESky usb controller won't work with any of the high end simulators which have hardware copy protection. So it won't work with RealFlight, Phoenix, Reflex, AFPD, or FS One at least. However it will work with most of the others, such as Clearview, FMS, RCHeliSim, etc.

yes i know

i am gonna try heli-x or fms

the only thing i am worried about is that i have read somewhere that so0mew flightsimulators need both stick and keyboard input

eg you can not use it the way you used to fly a 4#3 or 5G6

bilboa

You won't need to use the keyboard for just flying the heli or plane, so you will be able to control the heli in the sim just like flying a 4#3. Where you'll need to use the keyboard if you just have a 4-channel controller is for any auxiliary functions, like switching between normal and idle-up mode, throttle hold, flaps, retractable landing gear, etc.

ok sounds like i made the right decission

the flightsimulator does not have to be like the real thing but i need it to train my skills so i can fly on instinct(at th moment it is hard for me, especially when the helicopter is flying towards me)

Hi Harryxtc

Can you tell how you got the walkera 2.4ghz working with FMS & Smartpropo. Thanks

Hello Harry xtc

May I request yu to guide how you have made the Walkera WK-2501 2.4Ghz work with SIM.

This will benefit a lot of people. Thanls a million in advance
