Mate,

If you are considering the mono then I personally think that is a great
place to start.
They are heaps of fun if you get them set up correctly with the COG
etc.
Are you planning on building one? If so, I highly recommend the Wild
Thing that is available in the plans section of this site. What I did
with mine was get the 48 inch plans in the CAD format, took them to a
print shop and asked to have them resized down to 26 inches hull length
and put on 1 piece of paper. Built it from 2mm ply and 3mm balsa
planked with walnut and white ramin. I run an el cheapo 540 brushless
motor/esc combo with 10 Nimh cells for around 40mph.
If you are leaning toward the RTR variety, I have read heaps of good
things on the SV27, they are brushless and in fact the power system is
popular amongst scratch builders as well.

Yeah thanks, unfortunately I don't have any drawings, it all came from
my head and I chopped and changed on the run. The strut isn't
adjustable unfortunately however it doesn't really matter on this boat
as it was in the right spot from the get go. I have included a couple
of photos though, that might help a bit if you are interested. The
tools used were a vice, a hacksaw, a file and a drill. The strut shaft
housing was turned down and centre drilled on a lathe though.
Haven't seen the John Finch plans, I assume that it comes with
instructions too. The original plans on this site that I got came with
a full set of build photos for the 48 inch gas version which was quite
helpful as far as the build was concerned. The rest I made up and made
it into electric quite easily.
