View Full Version : Discussion FMS - DX7 - Can't get mode 1 operational

I have a DX7 mode 1 radio, the hitec cable and FMS 2.8 Alpha 8.5. When using this combination, it behaves as if it is in mode 2 but my DX 7 is a mode 1 radio and I can't find how to change the mode.

Any / all help greatly appreciated.

When you're calibrating just look which blue bars are moving for each control and put the appropriate numbers into the boxes on the LH side. From memory it should be 4,3,2,1 for all JR or DX Txs.....but if I'm wrong just check the numbers yourself.

Thanks! That worked brilliantly. I also had to reverse the servo direction on a couple of the channels. Now I need to check with my local trainer to make sure I have the controls working as they should. I'm new to this and don't want to learn with one of the controls in the opposite setting.

My assumption is the control should echo the direction the plane takes when the control is used.

Easy with throttle. Moving control up increases engine speed, down decreases. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Alieron also made sense, push control to left and plane banks to the left.

Rudder and elevator I'm not quite as sure about.

Thanks again!!! I've been encouraged by others in the hobby to go with the commercial flight simulators because of the fact that I was having to fiddle to get FMS working. I may still change to a commercial simulator later on but really wanted to get FMS operational.

Before I made the changes you suggested, I crashing 98% of the time, probably close to what i'd be doing in the real world so good score so far with the simulator. But now that I've got the simulator mode reflecting my radio, I actually took a long flight, just couldn't get the plane to come back to me once the sound started to fade as it was getting further and further away. Again, probably close to what I'd be capable of in the real world.

Rudder, push left, nose of plane points to left. When you're first learning this is mainly of use on the ground when you're taking off.

Elevator is the one that at first seems odd, pull toward you to make the nose point UP, push forward to point DOWN.

Hey, thanks! I think I have it all working well for mode 1 with dx7 and hitec cable! Now I can fly without crashing immediately, although I still can't land.

any suggestions on how best to learn to fly with a simulator? I have been taking off and flying around quite easily. Have been trying to fly slower and come around to land back on the field but not having much luck.

Is flying slowly in prep for landing a good idea? What other exercises or routines should I get practice at?

I think that basic circuits and landing is a good starter, but don't repeat the same circuit. Try banking left rather than right, or land with a crosswind, tail wind etc, until you can almost do it with your eyes closed (figerativley speaking). Then practice dead stick landings, figure of 8's, loops, etc.

With helis, its mastering the hover tail in, side on, nose in, then moving the heli around you, circuits, lazy 8's, fast forward flight, out and back with stall turns at each end.. right the way up to full 3D at competition level.

A sim allows you to do exactly the same as real life flying, only you don't write off your expensive model

I've been doing some circuits and managed to land it ok the occasional time. Is there any harm in throttling right back and coming in shallow to start with? I didn't see how to enable cross winds or gust in FMS.

My concern about learning shallow angle for landings is that none of the guys I saw flying at the local club landed that way, they came in from a fair bit higher and then dropped down only once they were very close to the strip. If i try that I just crash.
