Are you familiar with the Genie web pages at http://genie.rchomepage.com/ that tell how to scratch build any of several, fine-performing, bagged wing sailplanes? Read the file “What’s A Genie?” to appreciate the unique nature of these low cost, beautiful and rugged competition airframes.

After 40 years of involvement in R/C sailplanes my interest is waning along with once fine eyesight and other capabilities. I see the next building season as the last one in which Genie line builders will get my e-mail help.

Hundreds of you have plans, etc. but are “inertia afflicted”. The time for procrastinating is ending. To have my help, you need to gather things needed and get to it.

Each time I scratch-build a ship I learn something new, including while now building Smooth Genie Pro #5 (File 12). Several updated files in the website have just been posted, courtesy of friend Jay Decker. File 3, page 7 details a very easy way to get nicely-matched endcaps and dihedral in the tip sections of the 3 piece wings.

There are some new pictures and stories in the Gallery File. Colin Heyes of England sent some pics and comments about his SGP build experience.

I still love to fly, but effective this year, had to stop actively competing, knowing that eyesight changes especially make it prudent to do so.

Harley,

Sorry to hear about the eye sight. Thank you for all that you do. And thanks for the warning on this being the last building season with your help. Guess I better make sure I get it done this next building season.
