View Full Version : Discussion What servos for a Sagitta 900?

I just purchased a new Sagitta 900 that is nearly complete. What a find! There is not a whole lot to do to get it ready to fly. It is all covered/painted. The control surfaces are installed. I mostly just need to install the radio gear, a tow hook, and linkages for the control surfaces on the wing.

The question before me now is what should I use for servos? This was built with a 'full-house' wing so I will need four servos for it, plus a fifth for spoilers and then rudder and elvator. A total of seven servos will be needed. That's a lot. I am afraid that they are going to add a bit of weight.

Any recommendations? The one I got so far is to maybe go with Hitec HS-85 for everything. I know the HS-81 don't have the best reputation. I have six of those in a Spirit Elite ARF and they have done OK so far. In other planes they have had jitter and centering problems. I am not too keen on the idea of using them on a model as nice as this one.

I'm looking forward to some feedback.

Thanks

Have Hitec 225MG's in mine.

The mg85's seem to have better centering. Ive had a lot of trouble getting my Topaz to fly without porposing when come to find out, the plain hs85 servos had a LOT of slop in them. They were replaced and will find out soon as the weather breaks if this was the problem after all. Im fairly sure it is as the old servos would not center and left them in two distinct positions about 3/16ths apart. Thats way to much to get a smooth flight.

I would go with either HS225's or HS85's. I think either would work well for you. Depends on what fits better.

I am thinking may 225s for rudder and elavator. It has braided cable pushrods for those. A stronger servo might be nice. I'm not sure on the wing though. I don't want to add too much weight. I am wondering if the new HS82 might work for ailerons and maybe HS85 for the flaps. Probably one or the other for the spoilers too.

Thanks,
Mike

I just put jr 539's in mine.

I think the amount of slop in the pushrods will negate any sort of benefit in having super sensetive servos.

Mike,

225's would be a good choice for the rudder and elevator. That's what I use in all my TD ships. The HS85 metal gear would work for the wing, aileron and flaps. You might look at using the HS65 metal gear for the spoilers, one on each. They have plenty of torque and are light.
