Hi all,
I was just wondering if the Xmodels Whisper is any good for thermal flying or if it is more of a slope glider?

Thanks' Marc 540 :)

I like mine on the slopes better. ;)

They excell as a light lift sloper. There are two at my local hill, and a local we call "Special Ed" would just rip up the hill in 5-7 mph wind. They might be at a slight disadvantage in big wind, but a good flying plane overall.

Its not a great thermal ship. It tip stalls easily and gives you very little notice when it does (don't ask me how I know). It is a great light wind sloper. The V-tail is the weak link in the ship.

Hi Marc, I don't own one, but I wouldn't expect much from it on a histart or winch type launch?
The rudder control from the V tail may not be adequate to keep it on line with a boost launch, and as you may know dedicated slope ships don't have much dihedral and steering them to the above with ailerons can be iffy in some circumstances. Just a thought.

However if you want to do some slermalling, it may do very well indeed.

Stick to the slope with it. I have flown one and it flew like a brick on the flat.

Try the 'Ruby' if you want a molded 2m thermal'r or the 2m 'Gabby'. The Gabby is very pretty.

My Whisper did fine on the winch or the hi-start. I made a carbon wing rod that took 2 oz off the AUW and it survived all the hard launching from a strong winch. The rudder worked well.
