hi all...
i am embarking on a road that i know would need a lot of helps from you guys.........i have just done building the v-tail. next step is to sand the taper into it. can someone share what is the sequence to this.....sand bottom taper, sand top taper, rear rubber taper, follow by LE HT21?
current weight...19grams...hope to get it down to 14 grams after sanding!! =)

thanks.....

If you join the Allegro-Lite Yahoo group, you'll find the instructions in the Files section (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Allegro-Lite/files/), tail_sand.pdf. The drawings make it really clear, but here's the text.

1) Sand rectangular "airfoil" close to proper thickness using approximate shims at far end of long block. 80−grit paper cuts fast.
2) Alternate chordwise sanding with spanwise sanding with block against edge. Offset tail from edge to enforce proper taper rate. One−sided taper is OK for stab, giving it a tiny anhedral.
2a) For the rudder’s symmetric taper, use half−thickness shim at edge when sanding first side.
2b) Omit shim for second side.
3) Sand steep front facets using board and table edges to enforce proper slope. Sand until edge of facet reaches correct chordwise location. Shallow light as shown makes edge of facet clearly visible. Use finer 120−220 grit for small facets for better control.
4) Sand rear facets using edge of board to hold block at correct angle. Sand until edge of facet reaches its proper chordwise location. Offset tail from edge as shown to give proper spanwise taper.
5) Sand rear facets on other side by putting tail near the edge.
6) Sand off remaining corners with 220 grit under shallow light. Polish with finer grits.

Very nice work. I am going to cheat on mine and bag them.

.

That's pretty much what I did..sand bottom taper, sand top taper, however I sanded the LE HT21 followed by rear rudder taper.

I figured the LE to be a little more critical than the rear (which is pretty much flat) and the extra meat made it easy to support the front sanding the "facets". Sanding the trailing edge first would require making TE shims and buggering around.

Just my 2c

slowest progress =)

all up....14grams....

added some carbon 'bling' to the tail as it was only 12 grams after sanding, must be the soft-y wood i chose. also the tail was rather flexy...but with some carbon...all is good.

next stop....elevator.......

can't resist to see what the tail end looks like.....

had to add some carbon strips again to beef-up the horz stab....maybe i am using too soft a balsa, or i am just too paranoid.

Is it really too flexible? Covering would add stiffness to the structure. Either way, your tail is extra strong now. :)

Tips first. They are used to help set up the center panel.

Hello everybody!
Muah, see http://charlesriverrc.org/articles/allegro-lite-construction/AllegroLite_Introduction/
and http://www.charlesriverrc.org/articles/allegrolite2m/panel_seq.pdf
Instructions for Allegro Lite are similar to BD's.
