I probably should have posted this in the power systems forum, but I think the best expertise on theese motors are to be found here in the giants forum.

Last weekend I burned my AXI 5345/14 that I used in my Graupner Taxi 2400 electric tow plane, and I am now looking for something that can handle around 105-110 amps continious on 14s4p A123 cells, that is around or just under 5000 watts.

I'm prepared to change out the landing gear to make room for a 26-27 inch prop.

I've been thinking about the plettenberg terminator 30-8, hacker A150 and the neu 2215 and 2230.

I dont think that the 2215 can handle the power(?), and the 2230 has a to low kv, I think the one with the highest kv ends up with 108 rpm/v on the prop shaft.

The A150 is a bit heavy, otherwise it looks good. Might though be difficult to fit it inside the taxi cowl.

The plettenberg terminator 30-8 looks to be the best alternative, it's not to heavy with its 1550 grams, and is claimed to handle 11kw. I will be seeing the same problems as with the A150 fitting it in the cowl though.

What do you think? I'm after the most effective motor around 5-6kw, with a 26-27 inch prop, with a reasonable weight. Price limit is around $1200-1300.

Thanks!

the hacker A100 should work

the hacker A100 should work

Thank you for your reply!

Is really that motor capable of delivering 5-6kw continious? And at a bit more weight than the predator, why is this a better alternative?

Not trying to bash your opinion, just trying to make the best choise in motor! :)

the hacker can do 4-5kw continuous, and with the A100 you will only have to use a 23- 25" prop on 14s so you mite not have to put longer LG on, the a100 can deliver 35+lb thrust so it should be fine for a tow plane unless i am not taking something into account

i am not telling you to use the A100 but it seems like the best bet, and you will save money as it is only $700

Thank you for good info, looks like the a100 is worth looking into!

The taxi has been put on hold for some weeks as my Bill Hempel 50% cub will land on my dorstep in a day or two :D :D :D Not going to be electric though...

For continous power of 5kw i would say the Predator 30.

I fly my Taxi Tow plane with a Neu Bam 2215 1.5 with 12 cells and a 28/15 tenn custom prop
Graph Tech landing gear
This plane has big power enough to tow a 20 to 25lb sailplane

Here is a link to last years aero tow you will see the Taxi on a couple of tows

Hi, thanks for all your answers!

With the AXI I had in the plane I towed planes up to 30 lbs with power to spare, the biggest plane I towed was a 1:2.75 asw 27.

The next motor I put in the taxi is going into something different more suited to towing later, and I've decided that around 5kw is what I need. I want the power to tow my buddy's 1/2 scale 72 pound ASG 29! As you understand a powersystem that can handle a minimum of 5 kw continious with the best possible efficiency is what I need!

Anyway, power is not the only thing you need to tow sailplanes. It is also important to have a big enough wing with the right airfoil to create a lot of lift. In that way you use the power to go forward and the lift in the wing to go up, ofcourse with a lot of power to spare you can go steeper!

For now the predator 30 and the A150 are my best options, and I'm thinking the predator is the best because of the lower weight.

Again, thank you for your opinions!
