i plan on building a boat, and i need a four channel radio system, nothing fancy...just a 2-stick (springs, not rachet) transmitter, receiver, and 3-4 servos. any suggestions? i don't want to spend much, I'd rather not spend more then $60 if possible, just need something good, and it could even be used just as long as it works etc. also, does it have to be 75 band or can 72 band work for boats? cheers!

now that i think about it, perhaps just a 3 channel would work...and i think i only need 2 servos... it doesn't have to be 2-stick handset either, could be pistol, doesn't matter.

Finding a 4 channel for under $60 will be difficult unless you try looking on fleabay.
There are some reasonable 4 channel radio's at Tower Hobbies..

It has to be on 75mhz for boats (surface vehicles)

i forgot to mention, id like to get at least 350 yards range...400 yards would be ideal.

at 100 yards, your model will be difficult to see!

Ghost,
I think that Big Buffalo must be using Binoculars or a Telescope to keep an eye on his boat.

Hmmmmm
I thought so...
If you search on this forum there are several who have tried to produce a bait boat themselves but as yet we are still waiting to see video of a succesful bait drop.
Several things for you to think about before you start...
1/ If you need 'range' on your radio to control your bait boat, DONT skimp on the radio system. At 100 + yards, AM system becomes unreliable, you would be better looking in to 75mhz FM for reliability.
2/ For distance, you need a BIG boat so you can see what your boat is doing. Just as an experiment, try looking at an object, say 2ft long @ 100 yards away... could you control / see it?
3/ Seeing as a bait boat usually needs to travel accross a weedy pond to deliver bait, consider a catamaran 'hull' and an Airboat style propultion rather than water prop.
A Florida style airboat would be a much better design.
Have a look at how this was constructed. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=851621

1. check, def will go with FM 75
2. already have a hull in mind and it's 29" long & 11" wide
3. im going to try to add some sort of mesh/frame around the prop so that will help reduce weed being a problem but chances are im not even going to incounter much weed floating on top with the waters i fish. if i see weed, i will try to avoid it at best.
i don't much about radios, and i was wondering, does it matter if it has a micro or standard receiver size?
this is the hull i hope to be using,
