Well, I have been seriously considering getting one of these (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHU86&P=0) but I was wondering if I could get some help with the electric power setup. I have built some small glow planes and converted them to electric and have found that these planes can be lightened quite a bit as they dont need all that excessive reinforcement. Therefore, I was wondering what kind of setup (Axi + Castle ESC) I could use to swing a scale like prop (are there large scale 4-blade E-Props out there?) yet not overpower the plane (which will hopefully be significantly lighter). I DO NOT want vertical performance. I want decent scale-like speed and just enough power to fly comfortably. Cheaper the better, yet I dont want to sacrifice quality for a better bargain. Any help would be welcome. Thanks!

The battery is the biggest problem. An Axi motor or Hacker with a Castle ESC is what I am planning on using but if I could just use a 4S Lipo instead of an 8S that would save me a LOT on battery costs. Know what I mean? Also, I think mechanical retracts are more cost friendly than pneumatic.

I am getting ready to start building one of those for a conversion as soon as I finish up my last current unfinished project in a week or 2. I already have the plane, retracts and dummy engine.

Right now I am planning on going for a Mega 22/30/3 with MEC box and CC Phoenix 60 that I have and a 6S2P A123 pack. I should be able to get around a 1000 watts out of that and with some luck hopefully I can get the plane in at close to 10 lbs. If I can't I will up the power one way or another and go to maybe an 8S2P. I'm targeting a nice 100 watts/lb for it.

I already have the kit as above mentioned. There are good instructions in it for setting up the air retracts it recommends from Robart with robo-struts. For a plane of that size there aren't a whole lot of mechanical options.

Here is a great source for a multi-blade e-prop...

As far as converting to electric this site has what you're looking for. Someone is doing an e-conversion on the exact kit.

I am also in the process of building one of these for electric. It will have air retracts, modified to go in the scale position and have bigger wheels, and a tail retract. I am doing the bubble canopy version.

we'll see how we go. I have not decided on a power system yet but have everything else sorted. I would not want to hijack your thread.

I have 2 Top Flite P-47 kits from 1972 (original box) that i bought from a friend, i'm going to build them soon, so was getting ideas from the other site. Will follow this thread to see what other ideas i can use.
