Got going on an old Max Mills "Southwind" kit that I purchased on eBay last year. It is a 99" built up RES kit that was missing a bunch of wood and the instructions, so I will be building and modifying as I go. Build log on my blog here...http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=857646
Does anybody own this model? Did you build it with flaps or spoilers? How do you like it and do you have any pictures of it? Please post them here if you don't mind.

I have a Southwind that is still in flyable condition although I haven't flown in in many years. It is a beautiful design that looks great even by today's standard. I will take some photos when I return from a slope trip later in May. At the moment I'm spending most of my time just trying to get a fleet back in flying condition or finishing several models that are partially built.
My is built with flaps that are very effective. This bird has rewarded me with several long flights but certainly it is no Ava or Soprano. For it's time, this was a very competent design.
Enjoy your build. I'll enjoy watching your Southwind come to life.

When that plane was available I could never collect the money to get one. I thought, and still do, that it is the most beautiful planes ever. I sure would love to find another kit somewhere. Lets get some pictures up so I can drool.

I guess I'll post pics here as well as on my blog. Here are some of the right wing center panel taking shape.

I remember the kit well. I did all the laser files and cutting for it when I worked for Hobby Hangar. It is a good flying plane, it should do very well in RES when built with spoilers.

Ed, do you know what the airfoil is? It does not specify on the plan sheets or the box. I'm guessing it's an E193 or similar?

That's what I recall too. An E193.

Hi All,
I am pretty sure I did not change the airfoil for the kit, so it is a E193. I remember on my last one, I built it as a three piece wing that bolted on. It made the wing very strong and a little easier to transport.
