This thread is a place to share G4 tricks and knowledge.

I was flying in a muliplayer mode and a single plane came through flying with multiple multicolored smoke trails. It looked like the Thunderbirds were making a yellow and black 5 trail smoke pass. I asked him how he did it and he didn't speak English well enough to tell me. The manual says:

"• Aircraft exhaust/smoke-You can control the color, density, ‘hang time’, and
other parameters related to airplane and helicopter smoke and exhaust."

but I can't find the controls other than the particle controls to turn smoke on or off. Anyone else figured out how to activate this option.

In multiplayer mode I have noticed a tendency to get in and be flying then to get kicked out of the multiplayer mode back to the single player mode. It happens less if I am hosting but still happens. My computer has great performance in the single flyer mode. I turned down the graphics quality to see if that would help but still had the problem.

I Chatted to other multiplayers in the site and it appears it is a common problem for others. Any suggestions?

FLUSHPOOP,

If you know what I am talking about, then you already know the trick.
Sometimes you just need to LOL.

Sounds like your computer is capable of running G4 but when ya get multiple planes on the screen the power requirement for your video cards goes way up. This alone can get ya booted off a site. Twin Vid cards in SLI mode helps with this problem. Also, a huge Fatpipe helps.

Keep lookin' in the settings and you'll find the options that'll make your smoke more dense. I have an Ultimate Bipe that'll shut down most computers and would get me booted outta fields immediately. Needless to say, I don't use that plane online.

PS: Have ya been to the Realflight site recently? They are offering the original Add-ons as a free download for G4 users. They currently have 1 & 2 available and the other three will be up as soon as the get them ready.

I have an 8800GT over clocked card and get 120-350 FPS on a fast quad core. I don't have any trouble in the multiplayer function once in. I haven't had any trouble once in but still have and occasional failure to send file or something similar to get in in the first place.

I got the basic smoke variations figured out, but I have seen a wild multicolored smoke and multiple smoke trails that I haven't figured out yet.

Choose an airplane
edit that airplane
edit airframe
edit fuselage
edit engine
Smoke and Exhaust options appear.

Both of them can be modified. The exhaust doesn't turn off but runs all of the time. It can be set on a different color than the smoke giving two tone smoke.

The smoke turns on and off with the smoke retract switch or a different switch depending on the options on the plane.

Click on the color settings right of the words "Smoke Color" and a whole palate appears with color options.

Other options set how long the smoke lasts and how big it is and how fast it spreads.

I have seen that the flyers that have too much smoke can cloud up the flying site for the other flyers so don't use too much if using multiplayer.

Don is referring to a way to get the plane to make a rude noise and poop a brick.

Does it say something like "Falied to send player information packet" down in the lower right hand corner? That may be your firewall. Make sure port 2302 is open. As long as the host uses that default port you'll get in most everytime.

I've seen that "poop" trick. :)

The error message is the "Falied to send player information packet"

Vista has an option to allow a program to operate through the firewall.

The Flight simulator is already identified on Vista as having an exception to allow communication through the firewall but I do not know if the default port 2302 is always open.

On Vista to open the port it wants a name, a port number and a protocol TCP or UDP. Help me with the settings please. How much risk is there to leaving it open?

Late note: The "FREE" Add-Ons are the old simulations from the pre G3.5 that have been updated to run on G4. I have been told they have less detail and lower graphic quality. The new expansion packs (that cost a little too much) are G4 designs with the same level of graphics as G4. I bought Expansion Pack #3 and like the pylon course and the city flying sites.

I'm pleased that they are offering the ADD-ONs in a usable pack but have read that there are a few people having trouble with G4 after installing them. Can anyone verify this?
