For some reason I really dislike using a loop in the strings thrown over the head of a screw on the servo arm.
Any better ideas?

Attach the loop to a wire hooked through a hole in the arm?
I've always used the simple string loop, myself, but prefer a ball from a ball link to the head of a screw.

Similar to what rdeis said. This has never failed for me even after several years of flying this model.

Put a servo in each wing for spoilers. Use some HS-55's with a Y connector

I connect the spoiler strings to screws holding wheel collars on a short pushrod between the spoiler servo and a hole in the bulkhead aft of the servos. A loop in the spoiler string hooked to the screw in the wheel coller provides fine adjustment while corse adjustments are done at the spoiler horn. I have been using this since 1978 on my Sailaire and find it more reliable and easier to adjust than individual servos in the wing. I have also used servos in the wing but weht back to pull strings for my latest RES model. The photo illustrates the pull string connection to the servo in my latest model. Lighter and cheaper and the servo weight is in the nose where it is needed instead of in the wing where it isn't needed.

I just measured the current draw when I have my spoiler down with a servo in the wing. 270ma! That's a good reason to like strings. Less fiddly. (I know most people will say otherwise.) Or at least the consequences of messing up probably won't crash your glider.
You could use a rare earth magnet to hold a washer over a post. Or a fishing snap swivel ought to be really positive. They have a sort of spring closing ball link available someplace.

Thanks guys for the help. I am refurbing an Aquila and want to stick with the pull string method for spoilers since that is how it was built originally. This should help with my spoiler setup plans.
