So, I picked up my replacement for the Husky yesterday.

Those not familiar with that plane can view the thread here:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=805272

I am keeping it hush hush until the unveiling at the field.

Those that know what it is, please keep it quiet. I would like to have the first peeks of the plane at the field.

I can give some hints, though:

High wing
Flaps
Large enough to use the power system I have
I also think that this one is prettier than the Husky

Once again, the setup will be:
HS-475HB on the flaps and ailerons
HS-645MG on the rudder and elevator
Axi 5345/14
Turnigy 100A HV ESC
12s2p a123 batteries
22x10E or 22x12WE APC prop.

More to come in the next couple days. I have all the pieces, so the build should go rather quickly.

Once again, there will be a complete set of pics for the build along with the story.

Got some work done on the plane last night.

I bought some covering to match the existing covering on the way home from work. I re-covered the belly pan, part of the fuse and the top hatch.

The belly pan had some holes in it that I didn't like, hence the re-covering.

The fuse had some squishy spots where the sheeting had cracked. There were some holes in the covering from where the glue used to attach the landing gear fairings had damaged the covering. I didn't like either of those, so I recovered those areas.

The top hatch had been covered in translucent blue to look like a skylight. Not my cup of tea, so I covered it to match the fuse.

I also repaired the holes in the cowl used for fuel dots, needle valve access and the like. It now looks like a brand new cowling.

--------------------------------------------------------

I also ordered the wheels for this plane.
They will have to fit into the wheel pants, so I will only be able to go with 5" wheels. Previously, this model used 3.5" wheels, but after landing a plane with giant wheels on our field, I don't want to go back to smaller ones.

Next comes the motor and ESC mounting. I need to get some spacers for the motor. I may be able to get someone to machine them up out of aluminum for me. I have a perfect spot picked out for the ESC, I just need to mount it.

I test fitted the batteries as well. The four packs almost fit side by side! Another inch of width on the fuse and it would have been possible to just mount them all together!

After using the flaps on the Husky, I really like the idea of slotted flaps. This plane will be converted to slotted flaps as well. Right now, they only drop about 20 degrees. I picked up some hinges to change that.

Looks good for a launch date in the not too distant future!

The maiden and second flight were done last night.

Now I can let it out of the bag that it is a 1/4 scale Kangke Monocoupe 90A that got converted.

I bought it from RiBell who had been flying it on a Saito 170 3 cylinder radial if I remember correctly. (feel free to jump in if I don't have it right) I got rid of all the glow equipment and converted it over the course of one evening, an afternoon and a morning. I've probably got 8 hours into it so far.

I've got a few more things to do to the plane, but I didn't want to maiden it when it was super pretty. The wheels that will fit into the wheel pants and still roll on the field are on order. Until they arrive, I will use the wheels from the Husky. The wheels that were in the pants when I bought the plane were 3.5". A little too small for this weight of plane on this field. I plan on the pants and wheels looking something like this:

Good I'm glad your planning on reinstalling the wheel pants.
The airliners.net pic looks like the airplane that the people at Kangle had in mind when they came up with the colour scheme. They just didn't put enough white trim on it.

Got 3 more flights in tonight. I'm really starting to like this plane.

I just let it find it's own glide speed on approach now. She'll come in nicely, bring it level to the field to bleed some speed and flare when she slows up enough.

Practiced some slips as well. She won't slip as extremely as the Husky, but it is plenty.

Nice Monocoupe! The devil is talking to me about two ARF conversions right now, and one of them is the big 1/4 scale Pacific Aeromodel Clipped wing Monocoupe......:)

Thomas B: A member of my club is converting that one.

RiBell: I've got all the glow specific stuff set aside for you. I'll keep it in my truck to give to Dave. I may be at Chilliwack, though. What are the dates for that fly-in again?

Karl:
The Chilliwack event is May 24/25 weekend and I'm planning on being there.
Oh and a friend of mine from Gibson's is real excited about being there as you can tell from his personal website (http://www.teamtracon.com/0001.html) home page count down clock.

Karl, thanks for posting the pictures and information on this aircraft. I have a partial kit from ikon-west that I hope to live long enough to build. My only question is what battery pack are you using with your motor/esc setup?
Thanks

Well DUH!! If people would only take time to slowly read all the specs they (me) wouldn't have to ask silly (stupid) questions. Again thanks for the pictures. Will be happy to see it with the wheel pants on.
