View Full Version : Discussion Resin over Krypon?

I put fibreglass over one coat of resin and (toilet) "rolled it in". I sprayed with a Krylon gray primer and see that I really should have put on a second coat of resin (the glass is showing through).
Being a cheapie, springer-type boat, it's not a life and death matter - but can I now do another coat of resin over the FG & paint? Special preparation apart from some sanding?

If you can sand back till you have removed all (or at least most) of the paint, then you might have a chance.
Even if you remove most of the paint, there is a possibility of getting an adverse reaction between the Krylon and the resin.
You may weant to try it where is doesnt show (on the bottom of the hull) as a 'test patch' first.

Kaskazi, the Krylon is an enamel-based peint, and should wipe off, if you use some acetone, without harming the fiberglass. ;)
Be sure to clean ALL of it off, as Toesup is right on an adverse reaction---. :p

Thanks to you both. I would not have known about a possible reaction.

The second coat of resin would, in effect, attack the paint, and leave you with a truly horrible mess---.
Just wipe off the paint with a solvent, lightly sand the surface, and go with your second coat of resin. ;)
