It's for real, but maybe not what you'd expect!
Raise your hand if you've ever heard of "PT-8".

Yup, a one-off built and designed by the Navy---. :)

It cost so much that this type of craft was put out for bid---. ;)

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! Just got back from a holiday in Guilin & saw this. I hope someone with deep pockets & an appreciation of history buys this, but its sad to see something like this on eBay.

Chuck, this boat was a one-off, with mediocre performance, which is why the wooden boats made it slip into obscurity---. ;)

PT-3 which is very similar but made of wood still exists too, strange that these 2 rejects are still with us and so few of the production boats are. Is there a Huckins out there somewhere??

I don't think this will sell for $750k. I know I wouldn't buy it for that if I had it laying around.

Those 'rejects' tend to survive due to their after-life service requirements or someone that keeps them because they were a reject. Most rejects get scrapped immediately so if the reject survives that, it probably will live a long time.

The ship is a reject as a PT boat and ended up a trainer, maybe having some value as a boat that some celebrities may have trained on. Beyond that, I see it as more suitable for converting to a fun 'yacht' with a cool history than much historical value as a military vessel. I'd sooner soak $750k into that PT boat up in Oregon to help keep it running and restored if keeping history alive was paramount for that $750k.
