Hello all,

My cousin who is now 50(I'm 18) remembered he has an OLD model boat and found out that I'm a tech junkie and decided to GIVE me his old boat(any form of hobby RC is expensive over here).
The boat and radio are from a company called ACOMS
and the model is a Storebro Royal Cruiser 40 Baltic, vaccum formed. The boat must have been one of the first few almost ready-to run craft ever,
the hull comes pre-built,consisting of a two-peice hull(bottom and top).

The model is powered by a speed 400.

There is nothing wrong with the model, just wanted to know if anyone had anything similar.

This company sold cheap radio gear here in the UK for at least 10 years in the late 1970s and 1980s. If I remember correctly, it was available upto 4 channels, but mainly 2 channel sets were sold for cars and boat use., although some appeared in aircraft from time to time. It was, I think, AM gear on 27mhz which was the universal frequency for models in the UK at that time. The gear had a reputation for being affected by other transmitters within 50 kcs spacing so was not used for competition work. I think the other aspect was it had dry battery boxes rather than NiCds.

I'm sure some will still be in use, but I don't think it has been available for a good few years now.

Sorry I can't remember anything about the boats and cars bit!

Tonyo-thanks for the reply, guess what I found out?
I was at the local Tamiya shop and I saw Acoms radio sets, two stick models for cars and boats. There was one that looked like the older futaba 2ch surface radios and another which looked quite modern.

The system I have does use dry cells. It uses two battery packs- one for the Rx and servos, the other for the motor only, however they supplied a single-speed only mechanical speed control.I'm soon to replace that with a normal mechanical speed controller - ESCs here are way beyond my budget.

Thanks for the info anyway, looks like I'm not taking part in any races soon!
