I need help deciding if I should buy a boat!

Yes you should buy a RC Boat and very soon you'll own RC Boats :D . Don't know about the Venom Group Pool Racers, but I do use Venom NiCd packs and they are great value.

The Venom Pool Racer (http://www.venom-group.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=VEN%2D1805) is not a boat I'd recommend. It's advertised price is $29.99 - good enough for a 10 year old to play with in the pool. At that price it's not a hobby grade item, more of a disposable toy. It has dual motor drive steering system, which means you sacrifice speed in the turns.

I think you're better off spending the extra $$ and getting one of the following models:
