View Full Version : How to Setup Pitch?

How exactly do I go about setting up my pitch. Is this the same as trimming?
Can someone explain these two and tell me how to set them or it up for
raptor 30 and futaba 6xas. I got it running but when I litely give throttle,
I know its not gonna go straight up and hover. Good thing for training gear.

thanks chris

You need to get a pitch gauge (expensive though). First set all the linkage
lengths according to the manual, and use the pitch gauge to check to see if
the pitch is as follows (I think 6xas only has ATV, it doesn't have 5 point
curve, and it only has one idle up right?)

Normal: +10 +6 -2
Idle: +9 +5 -6

You need to adjust the ATV to make the above. Also you need to adjust the
Throttle (linkage and ATV) to make heli off the ground when throttle stick
is around half (pitch around 6 degree)

Is that second one for Idle Up or Throttle Hold?

What is ATV and 5 point curve, what do you mean by idle up, idle and normal?
Your talking with a newbie.

thanks, chris

Idle up

Throttle Hold pitch

+12 +5 -6

is the one I use. But you are free to modify it as long as you like it.

"Idle" should be "Idle Up"

There is a switch, labeled "Norma/Idle up" on your radio, I believe (on
better radio the switch has three positions "Normal/Idle Up1/Idle Up2").
This switch controls the pitch/throttle setting so that you can set to have
different flying characteristics. For example, "Normal" mode, people set it
for hovering/circuit. While for Idle Up 1/2 people set for doing crazy stuff
(such like aerobatic/3D). There is no single setup which is "good", you just
need to take the recommended value and go from there.

ATV means you can adjust the two end points of the servo traveling, you can
not adjust the position in between those two end points though. Five points
means you can adjust five points in between the two end points, so you can
have much better control over the pitch/throttle. Top end radios have more
points that you can adjust, such like 10 or 20 points. With radio having ATV
but no five points, you can not have V curve for throttle, meaning that when
you pull down the stick, the throttle can not go back up to maximum, this is
needed in doing inverted flying since when in inverted, you set up the pitch
at -9 degree when the stick at the lowest while you need to make the
throttle at the maximum, radios with five points allow you to do that but
radio with ATV only doesn't. When you go one level up to do some aerobatic,
you need to get a better radio. I started out with a Futaba skysport 6 CH
which has ATV but no five point, a big mistake, should have started out with
a 8 or 9 ch!

Am I missing something here ? Is the Century Pitch / Flybar Paddle Gauge I
just ordered for £19.99 not a proper pitch gauge ? Or the K & S 'Pitch
Gauge' for £15 ?
