As a regular occurance at SEFF, there is night flying. I didnt participate much last year as I didnt have a good lit up plane. However....this year I plan to come prepared.

I decided I wanted to light up my SebArt Katana for night flying at SEFF, but I wanted a lighting job that would set the plane apart from the rest.

Ive seen multi colored LEDs, and flashing LED setups before....

So whats a guy to do....

AH YES....
FADERS!!!!!!!!

and whats better than faders??????

MULTICOLORED FADERS!!!!!

The entire multicolor setup weighs 9.2grams, and is controllable by your transmitter for on or off. Since this will be showcased at SEFF, I am not going to tell anyone how I did it. You will have to wait till SEFF to find out, or wait till after SEFF and I update the thread.

I can tell you, its the easiest simplest thing imaginable to build, just need parts, and a soldering iron, and about 30min.

Im not finished with the plane....it is going to get the royal treatment, and have more LED's in the wings and tail to really light it up....but you can see the beginning in this video...

I am at work and the vid is blocked, but will check it out when i get home. Those are gorgeous planes, I have wanted one for a while now. Anxious to see one setup for night flying. I am finishing off my Mini Mag which will be my first night flyer with ailerons. Will look out for this one at SEFF.

The katana is kinda difficult to light up. I didnt realize it, but alot of the katana is sheeted. The top of the fuselage is sheeted, and the leading edges of the wings almost back to the spar is sheeted with balsa. So lighting one up requires a little planning.

If you like the way the Katana looks...you'll LOVE the way it flys. It is a total 3D aerobat. One of my favorite things to do is come screaming down the runway full throttle, Yank full up elevator, and watch it wall, then shove full down elevator and watch the tail swing around in a tight outside loop.
Just an awesome plane....cant wait to fly it at night all lit up.

Now if I could just figure out how to run 6000 SMD's down the sides of the plane so I could make a scrolling text generator for airborne advertisting.. :D

Oooo I like that idea.... Can you make it a continual fade without the blackout periods?
