View Full Version : Glow Plug Problem

I have an OS #8 plug, that when it is in my wrench will glow, but once I
screw it into the block it wont light. I know this because my meter doesn't
move when I put it on the plug in the block, and it does when I put it on
when the plug is in the wrench. What should I do?

Try a new glow plug and see what happens. Glow plugs are relatively cheap
and you should have plenty of them around anyway. I'm assuming you are new
so excuse me if I'm wrong but you should try out different brands of glow
plugs to see which plug gives you the best punch out of your engine.

Any plug that the filiment is not broke will light outside of the
engine..when you put it in the engine and it is under compression, it might
not light..tyr a new plug...try a hotter plug..BTW what kind of car or truck
is it??

why do you always say hotter?? colder is the way to go in most cases!
a hotter plug will advance the timing (could advance as much as 20° BTDC)-- If
the mixture is ignited too early, then performance is lost and pre-ignition and
detonation may occur - thus your engine may overheat causing the engine to
possibly lockup!
a colder plug will delay the timing -- easier to start -- easier to maintain!!!
once you understand a little more about engines and how glow plugs effect
iming -- then and only then will you be able to determine the appropriate
hotter plug for optimal performance
an OS #8 is the best all around (durable) plug there is IMHO
I'd recommend another OS #8 -- I try an keep several extra in my pouch for back
up
also for a glow plug to work properly the filament should glow white. and should
be replaced on a regular basis as well
for best glow plug performance. at aprox every quart or around every ten fuel
tank fills I like to and recommend, that everyone R/R's their glow plugs for
optimal performance and engine longevity
