View Full Version : New 9201's on 60 size?

Hey guys,
I'm getting back into this kick ass hobby after a few years of absense. One
question for you- would you say that the 9201's would be enough servo to
handle the likes of the raptor 60v2 or should I save my money for something
more robust? Also, I have not seen any threads pertaining to a raptor 60...
does anyone here fly it and if so, how do you like it so far?
Thanks
Paul

I have a Raptor 60 v2. This is my first 60 size, so I can not comment on how
well it compare to other 60 size. The reason why I chose Raptor v2 is that
it is simple to build, easy to maintain, parts are very cheap in where I
live (cheaper than other Japanese 30 size heli) and the parts availability
is excellent. It flies great so far, no compalint, but you have to be
careful about the one way, it locked on me twice and I am not the only one.
You probably can get a ring from TT to solve the problem, from what I heard,
no lock-up after installing the ring.
I use four 9204s & GY-601/9251.

Hello x-guy
could you be more specific about that "lock-up" and the ring,i have a r60 v2
too,but never heard that before.
thank you

9201's it is then. I think I 'll do a little more research before picking
my bird though ;-) This is going to save me a pretty penny! Much
appreciated, thanks guys.

Just bear in mind that the 9201 has been superceeded by the 9202. Very very
similar servos. Never could tell the difference.

That's because there isn't any difference betreen the two in terms of speed or
torque. The 9202 is a direct descendant of the 9201. The original 9201's had
some electronic problems. I seem to remember a problem with a poor solder
joint between the servos connection wiring plug and the circuit board? Don't
hold me to that one though.
Anyway, the 9202 is the upgraded version of the 9201 with the formers
shortcomings corrected.

The one way bearing on the main shaft locks during flight, that means the
two gears rotates simultaneously when in HOLD (the gear on the bottom
connected to shaft and tail supposed to rotate while the one on top connect
to clutch shoe supposed to stop rotating). The consequence is that in
autorotation the headspeed drops faster because there are more resistance
from the top gear connected to clutch due to the one way lock-up. Many
people had that problem and it happened to me twice. TT also acknowledge
that problem and they provide a ring (which I got directly from TT, free of
charge) that you can put on top of the main gear, many people said that
solves the problem. I got the ring but haven't got any chance to try. Don't
know the principle behind the ring either!

Alright, let me ask you this: which one is the winner between the JR8103 and
the Futaba 9CHP? Is there a clear winner or is it just a matter of
preference?
Thanks again

Hi Paul,
It's been my experience as a long time 9Z pilot who's flown with many, many JR
10?? pilots that it's mostly a matter of preference. Both companies produce
first class products. I've have very little, if any experience with the JR8103
but I've recently had the opportunity to help a couple of guys with the 9C and
have learned a lot about it. I'm very impressed with the radio overall and
would recommend it wholeheartedly. In fact, it wouldn't bother me a bit if
Futaba could incorporate that programming wheel on the 9Z somehow. Is it
better than the 8103? I can't personally say. All I do know is that I've
heard nothing but good about the JR8103 and I can't imagine that you'd be
disappointed with either of these flight systems.
Good luck and Fly Safe,
Steve R.
