hey , I building my second one to help fix a few things from my first one. the build of it is here (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=793806)
one of the things I noticed , the motor I installed on the first one , Actro 18-3, its too much torque for the short boom , my pitch range was only -+10 degrees , anything over that , the tail would blow out . well this is the fix , I stretched it by 2 " . with that I should be able to lower my pinion from a torqueY 24t to a 20t. the longer 470 blade and a lower headspeed around 2400 should have enough Pop for me . :D
I will install the 18-3
Spartan Gyro and Volz speedy
9650s on swash
470 Blades
Boom from somewhere I forgot now
Eco 8 belt ,( its rubber) so should be glitch free
Stock ESC runs the actro like a dream , Gov too works great
Tp 6S 3300

Ahh, this is just what I need to see. Please do let us know if you remember where the boom came from. Do the 470's look to be the longest you can go with this stretch? I've heard of 463's on a stock bird.
Anyway, thanks for posting.

yeh! 463s man! thats cutting it close. I have a set of 500s laying here , but the blade grips are 10 mm, and the blades are 12mm :( its a tad long for those Im afraid. but would be nice , 2200 on the head with those would be a blast huh? Autos would be great I do bet. look up carbon tube on the net, try to find a 16mm OD and 15mm ID X 24 " or so . also , Im looking into putting some bearing blocks on the front boom clamp to get the belt way from the boom so buildup wont be as bad during those pesky static months of the year.

hey , what do you think about this fix
alittle box insert , slips right in and when you put the boom clamp in the frames , it puhes the belt in and belt rides on 4 flanged bearings

Great looking weapon Tony. Apart from the tail idle wheels it looks an easy stretch.
Looking forward to readoing about its first flight.
A stock 600E motor would be strong on 6s 3850's i would think.(if you have one laying about)

hey , well its ready for its first flight , and its got above 30 degrees today YEH!!! :D 15 hours of dayliight IS GOOOODD!!
well for my second Rex , It was another joy to build, this size is kinda fond to me since I spent alot of time learning on a EP concept , Voyager E , and Eco 8 . and out of all those , it beats them hands down in quality and performance.
Well on this one , I do have the stock motor in there and I also set the ESC alittle different than the first , learned alittle on this one ,
disable break
high timing , a change from my first rex that was on mid timing
middle cutoff
heli 2 softstart with gov
medium speed , 1st rex is on quickspeed ( I think this is the reason why Im seeing the tail blow out) my gut tells me that
6volts " 1st rex on 5.5
also added this so I dont have to use a Y harness to use 2 2200 ma batteries. if I use a 6S pack , Ill put this plug on there, YEH!!!

Avocado flyer,
I was using 463's on my stock Rex but then went for the extended "new" tail blades for better tail authority and I believe they're too long now. It was close as it was with the stock tail blades.
This stretch looks awesome! Looking forward to your flight reports misskimo!

hey , well today I couldnt wait on my batteries and long blades, so I had a 4S long 4600 pack and a 5S 4600 TP pack. they dont fit on top , so I had to undersling the test batteries like an eco 8 , First test flight was also in a gym, he he! YEH!!! 4s with the small pinion sucks , wobble affect , but the 5S was a tad better , Also about 2 min into the flight , the motor started to serge, has anyone expirence that before , next will be outside with 6s 3300s when I get them,

Are you also using the tail components(gears box, etc.) from the Eco 8? If not whose?

hey, later Ill get the weight with the 6S 3850s on there!
Tail is the stock plastic tail with carbon blades. belt came from eco8 only, eco 8 boom is too big for this heli, almost 17mm , trex is 16mm
sure flys sweet , tictocs like my bigger trex!

Misskimo, have you got any pics of the finished bird. You have inspired me to stretch mine, but I will be using the Gaui flybarless head, sk360 and maybe the maverikk 503 blades.

hey , naw! I sold the heli, still got another rex , but its been on the shelf , I really want to stretch it with a torque tube , but I just didnt get a chance to stretch it, I got a 6 min flight time with 3850s , ran good on 3300s . I just didnt like the belt. be nice if trex used a bigger boom, I might do something by next spring,
Tony
