Hey Everyone!

I was wondering if anyone could recommend decent small-sized USB cameras for use as a nose cam in a UAV. Industry searches mostly return machine-vision and high-end, high-framerate cameras that get expensive quickly. I'm just looking something to record 30fps and spit it out over usb. Does anyone have experience enough to recommend a few cameras? Ethernet cam recommendations are welcome too.

Thanks

I'm afraid you'll have a hard time finding the camera your looking for. Many of them claim 30fps. Most don't deliver. You could use a USB Tuner, though thats likely more trouble than its worth. Why do you need USB?

Jammoc - and excellent board level camera that does exactly what it says on the tin plus plus - is the Hamamatsu C9260 series:

There are 3 or 4 models to choose from - the C9260 - 905

Quality wise they are way above the cheap hobby type camera's that as someone else commented seldom do what they claim to be able to do - these do and they do it very well. Big image sensors!

Also try:

Kane Computing Ltd and SenTech

I'm working on a UAV project at work and we are looking to replace the analog nosecam that came with it. Initially I was looking for an ethernet camera since we've engineered an ethernet architecture to connect different modules within the uav. Just this week my boss suggested looking for USB cameras and I haven't been too successful in finding anything appropriate other than machine vision applications (which seems to be overkill for our needs). Working in the nose cone, we have some size constraints, so open boards are out. ideally we are looking for a bullet style ethernet/usb camera to replace the analog bullet cam, but it doesn't seem that technology is there yet.

Thanks for any recommendations!

Point taken - I need to come down to earth and keep in mind that folk on this forum by and large are not using big UAV's - so the board idea I gave was inappropriate.

Anyhow - if you still interested I can drop you details on about half a dozen different usb bullet style camera heads.
