Hi,
I have a Century Raven 30 with a SC32. The engine is fitted with the
standard Century silencer that comes with the Hawk kit. As I am still a
beginner, I would like a muffler that is much quieter, and less
intimidating. I don't have a fortune to spend on a top of the range item,
and would welcome suggestions as to a good choice. Max power is not a
necessity, because as I say, I'm still at the hovering stage.
I know I could just get a pair of ear plugs, but I'd prefer a decent
silencer!!
Any comments welcome
Thanks

Brendon,

If you need a quiet muffler that still produces very good power, I would
suggest the inexpensive CN3033 unit from Century. At a rotor speed of 1550,
at 3 meters it will register only 84db on an SPL meter.

A local with an electric at the same rotor speed registered only 2db less -
82db. A 2db difference is barely detectable to the average human ear.

If you have noise concerns, setting a throttle pitch curve for a lower rotor
speed will always be quieter then a higher one. The Raven will still fly
normal routines (rolls, loops etc,) at a low 1350 rotor speed for even
quieter running.
