View Full Version : fuel line suggestions

Hi,
During the past three months, I almost lost two x-cells, because the fuel
line for pick in the tank gets spongy, tacky and breaks off. Use cool power
30%. Any suggestions for fuel line that will last at least two or three
months. Thank you.

I got some heavy duty fuel line for my r/c truck. This is very heavy duty,
in that its impossible (I think) to kink. Only problem with this is that
it's quite a bit stiffer than the usual stuff, so if you use it in a header
tank for example, the metal clunk doesn't go to the bottom of the tank
'cause the fuel line is stiff and just bends down a little, not right to the
bottom.
I have used it in some areas of my plumbing. I don't know where you're from,
but I got this tubing from Bolton Model Mart, in Bolton surprisingly enough,
north-west England. Pete is the nitro car man and he got it for me. They do
mail order I think so you could try them at least. You can get their contact
details from http://www.boltonmodelmart.co.uk/ not sure if the fuel tubing
would be in the online catalogue. Think the catalogue wasn't working last
time I looked.

Don't tell me you're in BOLTON Carl! We were out flying in Bolton this
afternoon. Not a mile (well maybe a mile) from the model-mart.

I get a whole season out of the fuel lines with CP 30. But thanks for the
reminder, I'll change them before the spring thaw.

This is the best fueline for the interior of tanks. Very flexible too.

This problem first came to light with the original Raptor 30 where the lines
disintergrated. (They WERE crap lines though!). After a few people had
discovered this, the fickle finger was pointed at the nitro content and then
the oil content and then FoolPower. I've seen "the green stuff" rot tubing
that's withstood years of being used with A.N Other brand of juice and it's
done it in a month.
Fortunately the X-cell's fuel tank is easy to get at, so changing the tubing
isn't a major prob, and it's what I'd do rather than see a motor quit at an
inopportune moment (and they always quit at an inopportune moment:-)

Hmmm.....I have standard DuBro fuel tubing that has been immersed in CP30%
for over 4 years, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and no deterioration of the
fuel lines!!!
And I bet you guys have some that are the same. Where is it? It is the fuel
line that is in your fuel jug. So why does it last so long and the lines in
the tank do not? Hint.....do the lines in your fuel jug ever get exposed to
exhaust from burned fuel???
No. But I bet you use muffler pressure and do not always fill your tank
after running to scavenge it of any remaining exhaust fumes after every
flight.
I have very old tubing in all my heli's also. But I haven't used muffler
pressure on my 30's or 46/50's for 10 years. Just Uniflow with no muffler
pressure. My 60's have been YS's for as long as I can remember, they do not
use muffler pressure. Narry a fuel line deterioration problem.
The same fumes that kill bearings left to sit in them will deteriorate fuel
line. Soaking these lines directly in the fuel day in day out, year in year
out does not do so.

Very good point Phil. I only use pressure on two of my heli's but neither of
those use nitro fuel and neither have any fuel line problems, so it's a toss
up which isn't causing any problems:-)))) I like the idea that it's exhaust
shite though, makes VERY good sense.

umm I haven't ventured beyond the back yard yet ;)
My mate watches sometimes ;-)
with my gyro/setup nearly working right though I might be ready to take it
out soon. Sale water-park (Trafford Water-Sports Centre I think they call
it) has a field full of mini helipads!
where d'you fly ? Bolton ?

And a field full of mine heli flyers too I've heard:-) Actually I don't know
for sure if there ARE still heli flyers at Sale club. I know they were split
from the plank flyers and had their own little off-shoot field a few
hundered yards from the plank field, but I don't know if the heli contingent
is still active at that field.

That would be fantastic Beav! Thanks for the invite!
I've just crashed again today :) It wasn't my fault, really! I was doing
good but I descended from some fast-ish flight a bit quick and when I gave
it lots more collective it didn't lift in time!! heh. just ordered new
blades and yet another set of mixing arms, flybar stabiliser and linkage
rods.
At least there was no boom strike this time ;)
Once I get it up and running and build up the confidence I would love to
come over and see how its done properly
Thank you!

Phil, this issue has been raised in the Feb issue of MHW, and the author of
the review also suspects the fuel. I'm thinking of writing in with what you
said, of course stating that I'm only relaying what you have said. Do you
think I'd get my letter published ? :)
