I have a Magnum XL 4 stroke that is pretty decent overall.
Saw an ad for a new ASP 91 4 Stroke for $148.00, great price for that size. Ad says they are made in same factory as the Magnum and are just as good.
But is the price too good to be true? Are these engines any good? Will they hold a low idle?

Got an ASP 52. Broke in easy, starts easy, Idles super low (almost count the revolutions) and runs like a top. I put it on a Twist (out of desperation) and it did not perform as well as its 50SX counterpart (expected) but I got some flight time on it anyway. Not unlimited vertical but all in all performed very well pulling the same 12x4w prop. I intend to put it on a bashed 4*. Bought it from the guy on Ebay sellin em for 89 bucks. Whatta great deal, but he got banned anyways, musta been somethin shady goin on, but I got mine ok.

Thanks for your review. I know the Magnum cousin is pretty decent but doesn't pull quite as hard as a Saito or OS.
I just read the first crop of ASP 4 strokes were pretty junky but they have cleaned up their act. Problem with EBay stores is somebody may have found a junky old one still NIB to sell.
Gotta watch buying from those felons. Maybe EBay should post a rap sheet with the feedback ratings? ;-)

I have 2 ASP thumpers, one .30 and a .52. The .52 runs like a top, and idles @2200 after just 2 liters of 80/20 fuel mix for break-in ;)
Go for the ones in white box and blue (or is it black  ) letters, as these are 'series 3' engines, the more recent design :)

Ebay doesn't care in the slightest. I just mailed eveidence of gross ebay policy violations to the president of ebay after many emails. It was sent registered mail with signature. Absolutely nothing was done.

Thanks for the heads up on the series 3. Interestingly, the great EBay Store deals are on Series 2.
I have found something even more serious in its own way about EBay. I have found a few good deals on real auctions with people selling kits they do not have time to build, etc. Mostly though EBay is now based on the EBay stores and the large vendors.
Guess what? When I decided to go for a Magnum .91, I checked all the Buy It now Prices and even an auction where people had already bid above retail and were still going. Then I Googled and found 2 hobby stores that were within a buck total with shipping of the EBay prices. I checked shipping options and went with the one that uses USPS Priority Mail.
I have had this happen with other items.
Moral, there are few bargains on EBay now that cannot be equaled or beaten with an established discount hobby store. I am sure the people at the DHCs know they are competing with the EBay stores and set their prices accordingly.
Personally, I am much more in my comfort zone dealing with a DHC that has an internet site and a physical store location. Chances are they have a business license and do not sell bootleg stuff.

I got one of the same motors Dad Roman bought for 89 bucks. Runs great. Starts easy all the time and idles very nicely. I have it on a World Models Clipped Wing Cub and it is by far my most favorite plane. After reading Dad Romans reply I now know what happened to the guy selling them. However you can look them up on the internet I think the distributer is someplace in Illinois. I would buy another if I could, preferably a .91. I have a Senior Telemaster that needs a .91 four stroke.

Thats it Woody! What a deal huh?
The reason I found out he was kaput is I had gone back after recieving my motor and was going to buy several of all sizes...but....to no avail
Those were smokin prices on new engines.

I have a Senior Tele I am putting the sister engine, a Magnum 90, on. Other guys in my club fly the Tele with that size. There is the stuff on the box about flying with a 40 2 stroke but you might take forever to take off.

On 15% nitro and the same props Magnum four stroke 70's and 91's pull the same rpms as OS four stroke 70's and 91's.
I have several of each size and brand.
