Hi

Just bought the new version of the Hangar 9 T-34 Mentor (white/red). The plane is sharp looking, perhaps a little "stubby" or "stumpy" but I like it. It’s a nice plane.
My first thought was to use an OS 70 II in it, but I when I looked at the firewall I got second thoughts. The firewall is has some openings directly into the fuselage. Since there always is a risk for fuel leak or residue from a fuel engine to leak into the fuselage I’m now considering an electric engine.

My question is - has anyone tried to electrify this bird, and what kind of electric set up is used??
The weight is estimated 2,7 - 3,2 kg, wingspan 145 cm.

I was thinking of using a power system as light as possible, but there has to be power enough to take off from grass. I’m interested in scale kind of flying; its nice to have power to spare but there is no need for "overpowering" it. Also, I’m not interested in adding lead to the firewall, so the engine and batteries are going to balance the plane.

Does the new version have the same "high speed" landing as the old (yellow) one? I read somewhere that the T-34 needed landing speed and long runways?

Hi,
I believe most people use an Eflite 46 on 5 cells and 13/7 or 13/8. Try to keep it arounf=d 5-6 pounds and it should fly well.

I run a hacker a50-10s swinging a 13x8 eprop on 5s. Very fast, you can slow the landings down by pulling the elevator back to bleed off air speed, even fast landings aren't bad because its very controllable on the ground due to the trike gear.
