Does anybody make (or home-build) rc speedboats capable of going in saltwater?

I have seen remote-control surfers used many times in the ocean.

I'm looking for something just as stable, but perhaps heavier.

Any suggestions? I'm actually thinking of waterphotography for big-wave surfing (situations I would not want to personally get into).

Here's a clip of the RC Surfer

I'm guessing that you'll have much bigger challenges with camera aiming and stabilization, than in finding a boat which can handle salt water...

Ah, but one step at a time.

What I have in mind isn't video but still images (surfing). The boat (with waterproof camera mounted) speeds up to the shoulder of the wave, snaps several shots, and then speeds out of there before the wave can impact the boat.

But the boat will get splashed, dunked, rolled, etc., so it needs to self-right.

Mounting the camera and shooting remotely is my second hurdle. For now I'm looking for a very stable saltwater platform. It really does need to be able to roll with the waves and float back to the surface.

Those remote-control surfers can do it. There's a company that specializes in it. I'll contact them as I continue my research.

Have a look at the British Lifeboat designs (RNLI) as many of them are self righting.

I dont know if you are likely to find a RTR or even a kit, you may have to go 'scratch' on a project like this.

A simple solution would be to add a bulb keel to a suitable hull.
Self righting is all about low centre of gravity. A keel will achieve that with just about any hull!

What about saltwater?

Salt water makes no difference to the function of a boat.
The only difference when operating in salt water is that you must rinse the boat in fresh water asap. If you don't it wont last long ;)
