View Full Version : Discussion Installing Data Recording software on new computer

I have a V2 Micropower Data recorder, and recently tried to move it from an older W2000 computer (where everything worked just fine) to a newer XP computer. I just downloaded the new ET software onto the new machine, and that seemed to go just fine.

The problem occurs when I launch the software, and then go through the Recorder Configuration software. When I plug in my Recorder, the "Next" button never "ungrays", indicating that the computer doesn't recognize my data recorder.

Now the recorder is blinking, but it is giving me the 2 blink flashes, indicating it is filled up (which is likely since I have been doing some rpm measurements on the bench on unloaded motors---so I would not be surprised that it is fllled up.

However I am wondering that since the software may think this is a new recorder, and that it is confused by seeing this recorder isn't blank.

Now I did try the System "New Hardware" Wizard, but it doesn't recognize the recorder either (as installed or anything), so I never get to try to install drivers or anything. Also it doesn't appear to me that this device is already existing to the system.

Have I left out a step somewhere?---I didn't install from the CD--and it isn't conveniently available right now (I am not sure exactly where I left it).

So at this stage I am stuck. Are there any ideas??

Thanks

Since I updated to the last version I'm having USB detection problems too. I have had to dis-connect and re-connect the recorder 2 or 3 times on every use since the update. I thought it was just me.

Hi All,

Alan, there is something going wrong between your new PC's USB connection and the eLogger. Could you take a look at these steps, and let me know if this corrects the issue?

Camship, I'm very concerned about the problem you are reporting. There should be no change in USB connection behavior after a version update. We have not made any USB related firmware changes (at least intentionally) for a long time.

Do you happen to remember what version you were using that did not have this issue? And, even better, is there a chance you could try that version again to confirm the problem goes away?

Oh yes, I have the data:
Previous version 5.70.00, firmware version not noted
Latest version was 6.33.00, firmware v4.62

What I do not have is the good sense to make sure the device is turned on.:o

With the Wireless Dashboard I had never noted the, "A USB Device attached to your system has malfuncioned" message before the latest version. I suppose I just never plugged the USB cable into it without it's being on for the entire duration of ownership, (over a year).

Thank you sir,
