View Full Version : Money crunch ...

My wallet is empty , and my workshop it full of junk.

I am looking for a diagram or secmatic for a mechanical speed control or a
simple electronic speed control.

A while back I found a Radio S**t 4x4 r/c truck. In the trash. I
occasionally find cordless phone battery pack at thrift shops. And, most
importantly I begged my mother in law ;-) for the 50 bucks to get a futaba
MS 2 chan. controller.

I am in the process of removing the Radio S**t stickers, and setting up a
servo controlled STSP switch to throw the motor on and off.

The staring was a pain in the A**. My left hand turns are tighter than the
right. I'll post a pic if I can.

Thank you for your time!

A mechanical speed control, as far as I know, is just a variable resistor on
a servo (of course they don't use actual servos, but it's the same idea).
Take a look at a road race car controller if you're not sure what I mean.

Thank you for you response, Erik!

I was looking for some thing more spicific, however. I tryed " road race car
controller " on Google, Metacrawler, and Overture. The search results where
al very interstring, yet none of them came up with any viable.

What I am looking to do is to fabracate a speed control out of parts from my
junk boxes, be it mechanical or electronic.

mecanical speed control , controled by linkage to servo . prts consist ov a
sweper arm with a contact that is conected to the batery via the pivot bolt.
3-speed center is newtrap about 120* of sweep. three contacts on ether side
of neutral ( no contact) .the first contact on eather side is wired to a
high wattage cramic resistor the second contact is also wired to a resistor
of 1/2 the ohm value as the 1 st (low speed.)the third is full speed and is
wired direc to the output side of the resistor bank. remeber the resistors
will get Hot!!! so mount them acodingly , this sould give you a general Idea
to constuct a control from Junk . or you can go to a hobby stor to find a
Taima mec. speed contrl for prbably less than 20 bucks.

hope this helps
matt
