I am just starting my Bot and hate the instruction manual. can anyone who has built a Skybench plane, is there illustrations in the play book (Manuel) or is it just text wrote directions like the Bot, which I am having a HARD time building. because my comprehension of it all just stinks. I need pretty pictures to help me along. Have a nice day..

I just sent you an email of the manual...
I had found two and one of them was a "text-only" manual...
I sent you the other, but does not have much to go by and not sure which manual that you have...
Here is a link that I found on this site that may help... Rather a long topic but many pictures and help if you spend the time to read through the link:

Hey Noel...
Anytime...
I had gotten an ART BoT and almost wish I would have went with the kit myself... I like the plane but am not use to flying one this large and heavy... Mine came in at about 5.5lbs if I remember right... I hear that the kit will be lighter than the ARF... I had only flown it on three different days last flying season... Time to think about getting it ready for this years season... I had picked up a few thermals with it but none of the days were really good for that... Last flight of the year got it up to around 900' or so... I have a "How-High" on it now and am looking to get it specked out this spring and see just how high I can get it...! I have specked out many times with my other planes from 1.5m to 2m class...
Enjoy the build, frustrating at times that it maybe... But most of all, enjoy the times that you will have when you get her into the air...!
You will find lots of help here... Keep us posted and we will help where we can... Still wished I'd a built it from kit though...
Enjoy...

Also check out Andrew Mileski's detailed build log here (http://isoar.ca/~andrewm/rc/bot/bot.html). He provides enough step-by-step details, along with a few pictures, to really help you get your BoT built.

Hi Noel,
Which manufacturer made your BOT kit?
Marks' Models or Dynaflite?
I have built several Marks Models BOT's in the past. That manual couldhav e been better, but my previous years of building experince helped.
I have no idea what the Dynaflite manual looks like.
Hang in there!!

I don't know which kit you have, but here are links to two PDF manuals from the Dynaflite website, if either of these will help you

Hope this helps Noel!

Noel,
You live in a RC glider mecca. If you are struggling with the instructions on your plane, just contact one of the MVSA guys and see if they would not mind dropping by to give you some pointers on the build. I'm sure that to their experience, reading the text instructions would make good sense or they could just figure out what goes where next by looking at the plans.

well I have scrapped the Bot for the time being. put it on the back burner. I have figured I don't know as much as I need to build this bird at this time. UPS should be at my door sometime today with my Spirit 100 kit. Great planes is great as far as there plans and Manuel and junk. The guys are MVSA are great guys, super group for sure but a little to serious about the hole hobby end of things for my taste right now. I just wanna toss my bird up in the air toss back a few brew-skis and not have to worry about how close to that 15 minute mark I can get and how close I can land to a point. I guess I am just a dumb novice who all I ever wanna do in life is to be a sport flyer. perhaps someday if I get more serious or more educated on building I will unpack the Bot and finish that beautiful bird. Until then TTFN

They might seem serious, but they are pretty laid back (except perhaps about the tossing back brewskies and flying at the same time). I was just visiting them 2 weeks ago. You won't find a better group than them. Plus, they have somebody from that club out sport flying about every day!

Noel,
Be very careful, this an addictive hobby my friend! At first, you will want to just launch, and land, and every successful flight will be a thrill. Then you'll get a taste of some nice fat thermals, and your goals will shift, then someday, you'll thermal one out from the landing pattern, and you will be hooked for life. Its like crack I tell ya, one taste, and you are in for life!
The Spirit 100 will be a nice airplane, and you should have no trouble building it. Someday, you'll look at the BOT again, and it will all make sense. Gotta start somewhere right?
What Ryan said about the club bears some thought. Most clubs have a good mix of guys, from hardcore competitors, to Sunday fair weather fun flyers. You can learn something from just about any of them, and most if not all, will be happy to help you. Don't sell that part of the hobby short, its one of the great aspects. I have a choice of setting up a bungee at a local school, or driving an hour each way to our club field, and more often then not, I make the drive.

NoelGStL, how many airplanes you have so far?
You will find they tend to accumulate.

Things will metamorph into gliders as well. You can put a TV into your storage bin/ building and it will magically change into a sailplane. Your wife won't believe you until you show her and she might not even then.

The Spirit is closer to being done. Still looking everyday to see if it is getting better to fly in St Lou. The last couple days were great accept a little to heavy wind. Wed looks great dads maiden voyage of his Spirit 2M and the real flight of the SoFIXed Egret lady. Now I am looking more and more at attacking the BOT with vim and vigor and get her done before summer starts. I am getting much better at this junk now days.. Especially how many times I have had to fix my Sophie
