View Full Version : Data Glide FDR averaging altitude?

Hello,
I have been using the Glide Data Recorder of my Seagull system for about 9 months in my Stork F3J glider. I have noticed that all my altitude logs fail in recording the dive before the zoom in the launch procedure (they simply show a decrease in climb rate, but never a drop in altitude), whereas my previous altitude logger (Lomcovak's LoLo) used to show the drop pretty well.
Is the glide data recorder performing some kind of averaging on the altitude data? I am using the regular 10 samples per second rate.
I am attaching two pics showing two logs with this phenomenon, one taken with the Glide FDR, the other one taken with LoLo.

Hi Francesco,

Yes, there is averaging for the graphed data, but it's easy enough to turn off.

Just click "tools, Custom Hardware Options" and click the button that turns off all averaging.

That's wonderful! Thank you very much, I will try it on my next training session.
Out of curiosity, what is the default averaging period?

Hi Francesco,

Glad to help! The default averaging period for altitude is one second.

Thank you bill, does it average airspeed too?

Yes, it averages airspeed also, unless you turn off the averaging.

I'll try next Saturday, and I will post the results.
