I am considering electric power for my Hangar 9 Taylorcraft.
It is still NIB, and I have had it for several years, just now getting time to build it.
Can anyone sugesst a power system setup for it?
Thanks,
Ed

Lipos are fine, but expensive for this size airplane. I was just looking at BATTERIES AMERICA website and they have a 2700 mah Nimh battery now.
I will have to do some calculating, but Nimh cells with this capacity should give a decent flight time.

Check on the site below and have them custom build some 4500 mah Nimh packs for you. Reasonable prices, very high quality products and work.

Thanks Bill.
What cell count would I need with this airplane if I use an AXI 5330 and the Jeti 77 ESC?

This is what I would do in your situation. NiMH batts are cheap but A123s are almost as cheap and they are lighter and will take more punishment and can be charged faster and will probably take more charges. In the long run A123s would probably be cheaper. Oh and the A123s dont loose their charge over time. NiMH batts loose I think 9% of their charge per 30 days which means you will have to top them off before flying.

10s 2p A123 4600mah 54oz about $200

NiMH 27 cells 4000mah 60oz about $133

Both of these options would work well with the AXI 5330 18. Thats a nice plane too, I wouldn't mind having one of those myself.

I wouldn't use NIMH even if they were free :p  old tech ...yuck! For a laundry list of reasons, but one or two reasons would be enough .

Ed, Do a search in elec power systems forum for "Welgard C6362" & you'll find my H9 T Craft I converted.
This was before the "Giant Scale " forum came about.
No need to spend a bunch of money for a great flying conversion however I've found some yokels in this site (not in this thread) who are pathetically convinced otherwise .
